I may help you out with the brakes, Neil, if you promise to swap the saddle (and maybe the seat post), too! ;-)
Did you ever look out for a Bassano Vuelta saddle?
One of the best saddles my bum ever met and (match the frame tubing), Reynolds 531 rails.
There must also be a couple of hundreds, if not thousands, with Gazelle name or logo on the back. Just a tip.Thank you!
I am already planning to swap out the saddle for something more suitable - I was actually looking for a white Concor - the Bassano Vuleta is a great tip, though! I'll certainly look out for one. The seatpost is a little too short anyway, so it will have to go when I can find something suitable.Frustratingly, I broke a spoke yesterday, so my dura-ace wheels will be taking a break until that gets repaired. Back to my 105 clinchers for the time being...
Still, what a great machine it is! Very responsive while also being super comfortable to ride. Love it!

Finally built up.
Mostly 7400 dura ace (hubs, derailleurs, drive set)
Brakes are 600 ultegra until I find a reasonably priced 7400 set.
Headset is a new Campag Record one with the horrible writing on top.
Seat post is either Athena or Chorus Campag aero jobber.
Rims are Mavic GL330.
Tyres are Vittoria Strada - a Japan-only training tubular with a kevlar belt and removable core.
Saddle and bar tape don't really work together, but they're not horrific. Thanks to everyone who gave advice on how to navigate Marktplaats.
I'm now going to ride the shit out of it.

Cheers for the info Rodolfo and Dutch Cheese!
As the current headset is an Italian Miche, I'm guessing the forks will now be set up for 26.4 fork races. The current headset has a 39mm stack height, but the previous owner also used a 10mm spacer - too much as the threads barely engage. 5mm would be more reasonable as a spacer, so I guess I'm looking for a 40mm + headset... I think.
As it stands, I have 35mm of exposed steerer with the bottom of the headset engaged with the fork crown.

Got the wife to hold the lockring spanner and opened up the headset.
The bottom/crown race is totally destroyed. The miche headset apparently doesn't have a seal at the bottom, so there was an incredible amount of rock solid dirt lodged inside. After 2 hours of spraying parts cleaner into it, I finally got it apart only to discover that the races were corroded and pitted. The needle bearings were ruined too. Seems like whoever put the headset on chipped the paint around the tube, so some corrosion has got around the tube edges. Grrr.Do Gazelles take an ISO or ITA headset size? I'm not at all familiar with this side of bikes, so I'll be taking it to my LBS once I get one in the right size.

Well, Marktplaats worked out after all! Got this frame in the post a few days ago. Absolutely filthy in parts, so I'll be stripping it down once my broken arm mends enough for me to start being able to rotate my wrist without grimacing in pain.
Many thanks to everyone who gave me advice in this thread on how to negotiate the aforementioned website. I would have given up without your help!

According to the stamp on the BB shell (3310967) that dates it at 1987, but then it's got Gazelle logos on the seat lug. According to the Gazelle CM website they weren't used until 1989. Confusing!
The bike came with a Campag Chorus rear derailleur (1st gen) and Athena cranks, but I'm on the fence as to whether to use them - I've got a 7400-series Dura-ace set which is technically (although not aesthetically) better, and Campag stuff over here in Japan is extortionate.

Hello!
Have a Gazelle frame coming which is kitted out with Chorus components, but the only thing missing is a set of shifters.
As I'll be using a shock 8 speed Shimano cassette for the forseeable, I'll need shifters which operate in friction mode in order to sidestep the obvious compatibility issues.
Many thanks!

Thanks everyone.
Peter - yeah I saw that warning in the guidelines section of the site. It seems to operate like Craigslist in that you're supposed to visit the seller to pick up the goods, too. Well, I'll keep trying!Carabo and Dutch Cheese - really, thanks for the advice and your kind offer Dutch. It's good to know that it IS possible, but I'll at least try to do it by myself first, so I'll persevere for a while longer. If nothing good comes of my efforts, I'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks again! Off I return to trawling Marketplaats (and the classifieds here, too!).
My "ideal" frame size is actually 59c-t and a 57.5 top tube, so a 60 or 58 are both pretty much fine.

Regarding Marketplaats.nl, is it common for sellers to not respond at all? I've messaged about six different sellers now - none have replied. I wrote in (poorly translated I admit) Dutch as well as English, but not a sniff.
I guess they're rightfully being wary of some complete stranger saying "Oh hi! Nice bike/frame. Would it be possible to deliver it to Japan?" but it's not exactly "I'm a Nigerian prince in need of a thousand dollars" either.
Can anyone give me any pointers? I don't want to pester the sellers, so I've only sent them one message each.

Had a look on Japanese auction sites for you. CN-7000 is the part number, right?
No luck at all, I'm afraid. Seems like a "holy grail" item judging by this auction:

Been instructed to relocate the rice pudding and strawberry jam bike over here.

Have to put Dutch Cheese's freshly-built Superia in here. Dura Ace 10-pitch throughout.
