Turned on the ps4 for the first time in about 6 months and saw that my ps plus had expired so decided to get ps now instead. Started playing fallout 3 (never played any before) I have no idea what I'm doing and pretty useless but I'm really enjoying it. Also impressed by how well streaming all the games works had zero issues can't tell the difference tbh.

I haven't had a Christmas in the UK for 10 years, we always go to France to see my wife's family which basically turns into a week long episode of masterchef. I was never a big Christmas person but it's pretty much my favourite time of year now.

Staying at the in-laws for Christmas and they have a bean to cup machine. It might not be the best coffee in the world but it's pretty sweet to have decent coffee on tap (especially with an 8 month old in tow)

I love smoked cheese and meat but never thought they could be delivered better in the form of a cold beer!

Am I right in thinking that’s more or less how beer would have tasted hundreds of years ago when smoking was the only way to dry stuff out in wet climates?

I couldn't tell you the answer but I've had plenty of other smoked beers (especially porters) which I really like but there's a certain meaty/cheese quality to the smoked German beers which I can't get on with.

Just before I switch to wine, 8% shouldn't be this easy to drink.

So grim, I bought every German beer from Kris Wines for an oktoberfest party I had about 6 or 7 years ago (yes I drink non münchen beer at my Oktoberfest parties before the German beer police come after me 😂) and the smoked stuff was definitely educational. Camden brewery had one on tap à couple of years ago and they successfully managed to make it just as rank as the Germans.

Yeah, I always prefer my beer to taste like past date smoked sausage!

I just meant rough booze by bath tub flavour, a common way to drink was to add sugar and bitters to a rough moonshine spirit to make it drinkable and older people used to still order drinks that way (even though the quality of spirits, especially whiskey, had improved) . It was just refined and turned in to a cocktail, hence the name 'old fashioned'.

Old fashioneds were originally any old spirit and a sugar cube to disguise the bath tub flavour. I quite like one with johnnie walker black label.

Yep, I really like the distillery as well. The 12 is great, very fresh spirit lead whisky, some of the older bottlings are very different though and a bit sweet for me but they're really well made and if you're a big fan of dessert flavours in scotch it's definitely one to check out.

There's probably plenty of people on here that know much more about Bourbon than me but at the 50 quid mark American Eagle 12 is a good shout as is Makers Mark 46.

Also, I know it's not strictly a bourbon and this might be controversial but I actually quite rate Jack Daniels single barrel.

I use peak water, the filter itself is really good its just the jug that's a bit shit.

If you were doing your whisky tasting in person (I'm assuming it's virtual at the minute) then it'd be a decent shout for you all to chip in and buy a yamazaki 12 but it's definitely not worth 125 sheets imo.

If you've never had any japanese whisky then you can't go too wrong with Hibiki Harmony or Nikka from the barrel, they're pretty good representations of the Japanese style and you can usually find them in any supermarket that has a half decent whisky section. I don't think I know anyone that hasn't liked those two.

The problem with Japanese whisky is anything with an age statement is going to cost more that £100 at the cheapest.
