from the lovely Celeste and Euan at HHV:
There will be a brand new monthly women's track league at Herne Hill Velodrome this season. Running one Saturday a month between April and August, let us know if you'd be interested in racing, so we can get an idea of numbers and start planning the races. The more people who enter, the more likely it is that there will be separate racing categories - at the moment we have Cats A & B.
A Cats must have an HHV Race Accreditation or a UK Track Accreditation. This is the race category for experienced track riders.
B Cats must have an HHV Training Accreditation as a minimum. This is the Race Training category for riders who have some experience on the track, but are newer to racing. The aim is that this category will work closely with a coach throughout the nights racing, explaining in full the races and discussing tactics beforehand, followed by a full debrief afterwards.
Obviously, if there is a high interest then we can add in more categories where appropriate :)
For those of you who are new to racing, especially those who are new to track cycling in general, we strongly recommend you get in some good quality track time at the Sunday Women's session (Sunday 5-7pm) and the Saturday basic session (Saturday 1-2pm currently but changes to 12-1pm on March 6th) ahead of the first race on April 11th.So:
- you'll need to do an accreditation which you can book -->here<--. Although speed and fitness aren't actually tested in an accreditation and it isn't supposed to be a hard session, you do have to be fast enough to keep up with the group and fit enough to go the duration. Euan says that if you are able to keep up for the most part in the Sunday women's session then you should be fine :)
- you should definitely also check out the Facebook group for more updates even if you're not thinking about doing it immediately; good to be in the loop!
- and for reference, here's a super handy list of all the races this season which have women's categories and dates for the women's and sprinter's leagues. Wednesday Night Track League starts on April 1st and ends on September 30th.
