Artex woes: previous owner has artex in the entire hallway and stairwell. Not only has this been woodchip-papered over, but then a few years later its also been painted over, even where there are big gaps where the woodchip has peeled away from the wall (because of the texture of the artex there's tons of gaps. I got it tested in January and it does contain asbestos, apparently it's "chrysotile" or white asbestos. I have to get a few other rooms plastered as they're a fucking state so I want to get the stairwell skimmed at the same time. However, I need to remove the woodchip wallpaper before I can do this. Is it safe to steam and chip it off? Or do I risk asbestos inhalation. I've done a fair amount of googling but if anyone has any professional advice, would appreciate. I considered just papering over the whole lot but there's so much air under the woodchip I can't :'(

I do indeed have and love my Trek Roscoe 7. Very comfortable and fun gateway
drugbike. I'm an off road no0b, having only ever done tracklocross or used my surly straggler, so don't have tons to compare it to (except a brief, joyous ride on @±ln(x) full sus) but genuinely one of the most comfy, fun bikes I own. A joy. I'm 5'9" with looooong legs and ride a M/L if that helps. -

It's an old picture, to illustrate what it looked like when we lived on it. As I mentioned, I never had a mooring myself! (I wish - would have loved to live at Northolt)
@kl ha! Unwilling to split - the big fawn lurcher makes living with the smaller saluki just about bearable. She grew up on the boat so was perfectly at home with engines, horns, towpath life - not doing terribly well now we're living on land, to be honest!

Does anyone want to buy my boat? 57' widebeam now on a mooring at Northolt. I've only ever CC'd but this is a really nice mooring.
Brand new kitchen and bathroom, king sized bed, plenty of room (we had an omnium, multiple other bikes, a drumkit, 2 sofas etc, trust me it's plenty spacious):

Not sure this kind of post is allowed outside classifieds (?) but I'll mitigate my flagrant flogging with any advice anyone needs on buying, mooring, moving or refurbishing both narrowboats and widebeams (both of which I've lived on for 3+ years) in London.

speaking as the owner of an 1876 end of terrace where the previous owner not only removed every single fireplace and period feature, replaced everything with shitty UPVC (not even sympathetic) windows and doors and polystyrene ceiling tiles, completely fucked up the DPC by slathering concrete on everything in the back garden, put in the world's worst kitchen, but also merrily re-wired without a hint of legality or safety (don't get me started on the gas either) and slapped layer after layer after layer of paint on (she was there for 41 years).... please for the love of god don't rip out all the period features. there are other houses.
oh, and we have a mix of pebbledash and flat render on the front. it looks disgusting. i know this area was bombed so i'm assuming there's a jumble of brick and breezeblock underneath, so my only hope is now to paint over it.
(i don't know how baller you're going with kitchens also but i love my Wren kitchen and because i basically extreme coupon'd myself with sale + discount + special offer the entire thing - plus all new white goods - cost me £8k and they are the best tradespeople i've ever had. would recommend)

Hello freelancers/contractors of the forum, I'm about to take on an indefinite contract role. I am, for the first time in my short life, going to be using my home MBP and not have a "work macbook" as well - should I get device insurance (and if so, who would you recommend)? I have home and contents insurance but wouldn't want to claim on that if my macbook decided to die for some reason. I'd just want to claim on the device insurance and get a new one sent out asap/cash equivalent. (Should I also take the MBP off my home and contents insurance?)

I was luckily told this very early on and knew from #boatlyf that damp is a real nebulous prick. So when we moved back into a house I started running an informal experiment, asking people of differing trades what their thoughts were on the same 2 sections of damp - I've had different answers from every single one. It's bananas

Watford Junction, so unfortunately pretty much diametrically opposed to SE6! Good to know these people do exist, though
Is it worth creating a forum approved trades person thread?
@Tenderloin possibly! These days I'm not much of a forumengererer so I doubt I could give much of a read on whether this would have a high or devoted uptake (especially from knobheads like me who don't even really live in London any more (I'm still within the M25, I promise guv!)), but it'd certainly be useful

I need to change the otp crankset that came with a pompino to a chainring with 26t.
