I'm moving flat and downsizing a little, and so sadly my first fixed frame needs to find a new home.
I'm located in Stratford, and I've priced this to sell (or so I think). If you think I'm way off in terms of price then please let me know and I'm happy to adjust.
The frame was originally a Mongoose Maurice, both frame and fork are made of chromoly. The F+F were powder coated in 2013 and it was only ridden for 9 months after that, before spending the rest of its time laid up in my room. The little moustache vinyl was added by the previous owner and can just be removed by hand if you don't like it. I only stopped riding the frame because I bought a proper track frame and couldn't afford a 2nd wheelset at the time. The frame has eyelets for mudguards on the front and back, and it has good clearances, so you could run some wider tyres. I've always run 25c, but there is loads of room so you could easily get 28 or 32c on there. The frame is also drilled for 2x bottle cages and a rear brake if you'd prefer to run it singlespeed.
The frame is 56cm, which is a size Large for this model. I'm 5 foot 10 and it fitted me great, but I don't think it would fit someone much smaller than me (unless you have long legs).
I'm selling it essentially as a full bike without a wheelset. Grab yourself a wheelset off here for circa 50 quid and a set of mudguards, and you've got yourself an ideal beater for winter.
I've listed the components below. I'm selling it like this because I need the space and work is demanding at the minute. I'd get a lot more money breaking everything down and selling it bit by bit, but sadly I don't have the time at the minute. I'm asking for £90 collected, which I think is a great value bundle. If you had the time on your hands I'm sure you could break it down and sell the bits back on for a profit. If you really just want the F+F then I'll reduce the asking price by 20.
Any questions, feel free to ask in the thread or send me a PM.
Thanks,
Tom
- Mongoose Maurice 2012 F+F, 56cm
- Tange headset
- Tektro front brake caliper with virtually brand new brake pads, and cable inner/outer
- Orbea wing profile compact OS drops wrapped in black Deda bartape ridden for less than 100 miles (I think I have a flat bar from a mtb that I could switch this for if you'd prefer)
- Tektro brake levers
- Bontrager SSR 105mm OS stem (I also have a 90mm stem I could switch this for if you'd prefer that)
2x alloy bottle cages - Brand new alloy seatpost and clamp (I rounded the thread on the previous clamp and the previous seatpost was tatty)
- Charge spoon saddle in dark grey
- Pair of MKS chain tugs (the dropouts on this frame aren't proper track dropouts à la PreCursa etc., and so I used to run it fixed with chain tugs on both sides just to be sure I wouldn't have any movement in the wheel if I decelerated in a hurry. You won't need these if you're going to run it SS, but they are included anyway)
- Token 103mm carbon BB
- Lasco track crankset with 1/8 46T chainring, 170mm all threads in great condition
- KMC 1/8 chain with less than 100 miles on it
- I can pop on some BMX style platform pedals if you'd like
- Mongoose Maurice 2012 F+F, 56cm

Hi,
I need to free up some space as I'm moving flat.
I'd been storing my Canyon bike box in my room for the last couple of months, telling myself that I may have use for it one day.
As anyone who has ever bought a Canyon will testify, it's actually a really good bike box. It comes with cardboard inserts to keep the frame/wheels in place, and loads of dense foam pads with long velcro leashes, so that you can secure peripheral bits to the frame without risk of them knocking against the paintwork or anything else.
I don't want any money for it, just offering it up in case anyone needs to post a nice frame - it'll be 10x better than a crappy bike box. Collection only in Stratford, I'll just recycle it if there is no interest in the next month.
Feel free to ask any questions.
Tom

Don't get me started on the height change!
Anyone tried the newly opened bit of segregated cycle path cycling from mile end towards bow? It raises up to pavement level for a little bit, and the slopes they've intricately constructed are like mini mountains. I'm fairly sure they are adding a significant additional elevation gain to my ride home each evening.
The clip posted above of the whitechapel section of CS2 must have been when it first opened, because it has never been that clean since. It just seems to be used as a communal bin by residents - I don't ever use it, I just use the bus lane instead. Great reason to cause widespread delays for all road users for a whole year!

I bought Garmin Edge 810 GPS Bike Computer with Heart Rate Monitor and Speed/Cadence Sensor and City Navigator Street Maps For Europe https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B06K5UI/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_eN6VvbEAPJ6CK which has gone down by 15 quid since I bought it, and is only 5 quid more than the unit without maps now. My unit came with 2014 maps on an sd card. Would recommend going for that if you're able to return your previous unit to the retailer

Check out my posts on the previous page. Had the same issue with osm on an 810, returned the device and the 2nd was the same. Garmin advised they wouldn't provide support as it was the third party maps causing the problem.
I ended up returning the 2nd device and just buying a 3rd unit with the official maps bundled.
Had it about a month and no issues, I know @hippy also had a similar experience.
Where did you get yours from? Do they have a good returns policy? As I recall, I only ended up paying 30 quid extra from amazon to have the official maps, and it is also really nice to be able to search locations by postcode. Really handy for navigating on the fly, especially in london

Ah, sorry about that - I'd just assumed you were riding in the UK.
I've never had an issue on the free-ride map screen, it is only during turn by turn navigation. I guess we're using the device for different purposes, and for your purpose it seems to work great!
If it's lasted 7 hours I'd wager it'll be fine - mine usually crashes quite quickly (within the first hour or 2) on a longer route.

I'm afraid it doesn't look great compared to your route on ridewithgps
So you're staying on the west/south side of the river/stream there, whereas exporting as a gpx and then loading onto my 810 with garmin maps has you crossing the river/stream multiple times (no, I'm not quite sure how you're expected to do that either).
Sorry man. On the other hand, the second half of that trail (away from the water) looks to be pretty much identical!
-
Yep, that's what Garmin said! Completely agree that it sucks. I do understand from their point of view that they can't troubleshoot as they aren't the people that produce the maps.
However, from reading about on the internet a bit, and even on Garmin's own forums, this appears to be a well known issue. If they are going to sell a device that you can load maps on to, which they sell both with their own mapping included and without, I feel like they should be a bit more receptive to working out a solution with their customers who have paid quite a decent sum of money to buy their devices.
Are there any specific trails you want to use? If you like I can try to have a look on my copy of the maps and see whether they are there, if it's going to make a difference to you?

My second 810 keeps crashing when navigating as well. Again tried a factory reset, auto power off settings and checking the firmware was up to date.
Ended up on the phone to garmin support who eventually let me know that because I'm using third party maps that are unsupported by them, aside from recommending a master reset there is nothing they are willing to or able to do to resolve the issue.
I've therefore ended up doing a hippy - I'm returning the current one and I've had a brand new unit with garmin europe mapping included arrive today. Let's see how it goes. Needless to say, if there is still an issue, I'm not going to be particularly happy!
@hippy is yours still going strong with the official garmin maps?

Quick question to see whether anyone might be able to help.
I had a bike fit on my track bike about a month ago, and I've felt awesome since.
I bought a road bike last week to take part in some longer sportives, and so I bought the frame size with my bike fit measurements in mind. When I got the bike, I set up the saddle height and fore/aft. I went out for a 77 mile ride and from about 50 miles on I had bad mid-back pain, which I've never had before while riding.
When I got back, I put my bikes side by side to see if I could figure out what was different and therefore causing the pain. It turns out the reach on the roadbike is about 24mm shorter than my track bike. I assume that this meant my spine couldn't lie in a flat/neutral position and this is what caused the pain? Ordering a stem that is 20 or 30mm longer should help, right?
Additionally, I wanted to check my saddle - bar drop, but the problem is that I have 2 different bar types on each of the bikes. My track bike has bullhorns and my roadbike has drops. Should I set up the bar - saddle drop to be the same for the position on the drops, for the position on the hoods, or in the middle between the two?

I've ended up placing an order for a new 810 and I shall return the old one to amazon for a full refund once the new unit arrives.
After doing a full factory reset and checking auto power down was disabled, the device actually crashed more than before. I had it crash twice on the commute to work when just recording - not even navigating.
As far as I'm concerned the unit is a dud, and as good as I'm sure garmin customer service is, I don't much want to mess around sending off a brand new unit and getting a refurbished back etc.
Fingers crossed the new one just works out of the box!

Hmmm, let me know how you go with that. Dare I ask how much the Garmin Europe maps were? I just resent paying more for an optional extra to make a relatively expensive piece of kit work. In my head it should work as designed out of the box.
I bought an 810 a few weeks ago, and my experiences echo those of many others on here - navigating to a postcode not working as it should (on OSM maps), and crashing while navigating a course of a decent size, with turn-by-turn not working after it's rebooted.
I'm going to do a hard reset tonight and see whether that helps, but I'm not particularly happy with it at the minute. Hippy, what has Garmin's response been when you've approached them with the problems - have they insisted it's just your device, or have they indicated it's a common issue?

Buyer has withdrawn due to postage cost. Anyone in London want this? No worries if not, I'll just bin it, but I know I've been desperate for a bike box in the past, so just throught I'd offer it up!
