Decided to crack on with this, and visited my local Leather wholesaler. It's in the Fashion district, so the scrap bins are raped on a daily basis. I found some nice thin black leather within the first five minutes of rooting around, but thought it would be too small. 45 minutes later, I hadn't found anything better.
The good news was the price - 50 cents for a scrap of leather!
The adhesive ended up costing much more, a whopping $4.25.So I got home and got started.

Like I said, I was concerned it might be a bit small.
As the saddle has a (narrow) cutout, I decided to deal with that first. Instead of applying adhesive to the whole saddle, I just did a strip in the middle so that I could put the leather on, press it into the groove and then cut a slit using a scalpel.
After that had cured (20 mins) I went on to gluing each side of the saddle.
Another 20 minutes went by waiting for the adhesive to go tacky.
At this point I just wanted to get the top of the saddle adhered properly, quite tight and neat. No rush.[http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b216/190Evoluzione/P1120235_zpsbd9a6806.jpg
Here you can see how I've just pushed the excess leather down into the cutout. It's all glued so it should stay put. Superglue is always on hand if it lifts.
With the top done, I could turn the saddle over, trim the excess and start working out where I'd need to cut the odd dart or slot to fold all that leather under.
I started at the nose, using a scalpel and scissors to trim away enough to allow me to fold the leather. I then worked my way up the sides of the saddle until I got to the 'hips'. The back is a complex shape, so I had to cut a good few darts.
With everything folded in and trimmed, that was me done for the day. Doesn't look too shit for a first attempt, but I doubt Busyman would be happy with this.
I then left it for 24 hours before installing it on the bike and taking it out for a ride.

If I were to do it again, I'd definitely cover the saddle rails with masking tape. The adhesive is stringy as fuck and gets everywhere. If you get it on the top of the leather, the rails, or anywhere else you don't want it, rub it off whilst it's tacky (ie within 20 mins of application).

To update this thread, here's how the bike looks now.
It's no longer Fixed Gear, I'm running it SS with a gear ratio of 42x17T. Shimano XT V-brake is on the rear now.
Also got my position dialled and ditched the 70mm Elite X4 in favour of a 100mm X2.
A few saddle changes later, I've retrimmed my old SLR Gel Flow and installed it.

Thread from t'dead.
Has anyone successfully retrimmed a saddle with a cutout?
My old SLR Gel Flow needs a new skin. I'm happy to leave the old one on and go straight over it, but the slot is super-narrow and quite pointed at each end.Selle Italia put a seam down the centre of it originally but it would be nice to avoid doing that.

As amazing the scenery is, that look fucking boring.
So, when faced with the magic of riding a couple of miles out above the crystal-clear ocean in absolutely perfect weather, what do you feel is missing from that moment? Steep hairpins? A conversation about Japanese touring tyres with Grant Petersen? A chance to assume the 'aero' position on a 35kg rando bike?

All that stuff I said
All that stuff you said
My basic point (big picture here) is that I don't see Autonomous PERSONAL transport as true progress, or even necessary.
What's so challenging about your current 'lifestyle' that you need to be ferried around like SirAlanSugar?I can definitely see a use for Autonomous vehicles in an Industrial context, of course, but I don't believe in creating nannying solutions to problems that can be solved by better education.
I also have a little trouble seeing how Autonomous cars would successfully share the roads with human-piloted conventional cars (from both political and practical points-of-view).Basically, I'm one of those annoying retrogrouch thirty-somethings that thinks smaller, lighter cars with loud engines, large bright window apertures, stick-thin pillars and an engaging driving feel are safer than lumbering, silenced, blacked-out leviathans covered in cameras.
Whenever the idea of removing human interaction from a basically simple activity (almost always based on an authority's perception of 'risk') rears its head, it makes me sad.Think ahead to 20-30 years' time. That Autonomous car you're sitting in, what exactly is it affording you the time to do? Look out at all the other hideous, boring autonomous cars whizzing by? More time to surf the Londinium Ceramic Disc and Belt Drive Forum? Talk about all the things you don't have to do any more to all the other people that don't do anything either? Rave about how McLaren make a slightly lighter battery than Ferrari and oh isn't it surprising how a lighter battery can help an Autonomous race car lap a circuit slightly more quickly than a car equipped with a slightly heavier battery?
Driving remains an activity to me. Sometimes it doubles up as a chore, sometimes it's also a sport. Sometimes it's just an escape.
Cars remain pieces of design to me. Mondeos are dull things, white goods really, but right now in the UK you can still buy a working '80s Porsche, Mercedes, BMW or nice old Alfa for under a thousand quid. Cars that make me smile whenever I see them still in operation on the road. The rise of Hybrid Technology, Autonomy and other forms of 'progress' will likely conspire to see these cars legislated off the road in quite a short time frame. Sad times. And, yes, I still pull out a map if I need to go somewhere. I don't have a Sat-Nav or working GPS on my phone.
In the door-pocket of my car you will find a dog-eared copy of this.By relying on this (and the plethora of signage clearly visible out the front window, not to mention the position of the sun in the sky) for the past ~20 months, I've been told quite a few times that I now know central LA better than many Sat-Nav-enslaved folk who were actually born here.
I'd prefer to be smarter than my car.

Like leasing a car, except you don't have it on your driveway, more like look at your phone, say I need a car and bam, it's right there within a minute.
Oh, that sounds amazing! Almost like a... Taxi.
The great thing about owning a car is that it's more than just a form of transport. It's a piece of design, a personal space, something that you can rely upon as a constant. It can also function as a refuge, a place to sleep, entertain, escape.
Tell me;
Will these autonomous 'public' cars clean themselves (inside, I mean) after every single use? I don't currently know of any form of transport that can do that. Piece of piss to keep my own car clean though.
Will these things be able to swallow/carry a shitload of stuff from Ikea? Mattresses strapped to the roof, tailgate tied down with rope, etc?
How about camping and exploring? Can I drive one out into the woods and sleep in it if I want to get up and surf at 5am? Are there going to be air-conditioned charging stations in Death Valley?
Then there is also the small (well, massive, actually) issue of Motorsport. You know, that technological behemoth fuelled by enthusiasm, passion and most importantly a fucking shitload of private money that develops the technologies that currently trickle down into our road cars. Do you expect anyone to race Autonomous vehicles? Or do we just leave Morgan and Caterham to carry on making their bread and butter for petrolheads to blast around in?I don't think you see the bigger picture
I don't think you're right.

Its available now. LS460 owners boast on Lexus forums about snoozing at 80pm, with the radar cruise and lane guidance looking after the car.
Lexus drivers here generally think their car drives itself, going by what I see them doing at the wheel in traffic. Texting, eating, applying make-up, anything but paying attention to the task of driving. Stupid cunts that don't deserve a licence, basically.
People don't want trains though, they want cars. I prefer trains but they don't run on Sunday mornings when I need them so I have a car. Anyway, how sweet would it be if cars could drive themselves and I could treat the drive like a train trip and actually enjoy the scenery or a book or something?! Fantastic. Shit, I want one now.
Living up to your username quite spectacularly, there. People 'want' but are not prepared to do what's necessary to 'deserve'.
Do you honestly think the future of Autonomous cars is that people who can (just about) afford to run a car nowadays will later on be blessed with a personal vehicle that whisks them wherever they like whilst they sit there foffing off to a Miley Cyrus sex tape?
Or...
Do you think that the Government / DoT will happily prise the steering wheel out of your hands, kick you onto public transport and make the future of 'personal motoring' so expensive that only the rich can afford it?Right now, I can buy and run a (used, probably quite old) car for a reasonable amount of money. That to me is quite a freedom.
I don't want to exchange that for a satellite-tracked, radar-guided, information-leaking JohnnyCab that will likely cost three times as much as a G-Wiz. -
If you live far and out, it makes sense to own your own car, but in any city location, it becomes pretty pointless to own a car even more so.
Unless you actually really, really like cars. And your city is 503 square miles.
Most of humankind still can't even run an affordable, efficient train service. How's about learning to walk first, then run. -
My first (and current) road bike. Still don't know if the frame's too small for me, or just an odd geometry. Any stem longer than 80mm seems massive. I'm 5' 11" and at present it fits me with no aches or back problems. Aluminium gets a bit wearing after 80 miles though.
Tyres are 700x25c, and I get left behind on long descents. Nice on the way up though, and I need the grip for some of the trail-like roads in the hills of LA.http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3706/9609194169_8f21cf212f_o.jpg

Having trouble the with BBC Radio widget (the Phantom Gorilla one) in OS X 10.6.8.
Haven't used it for ages, but now I come to use it and it doesn't work. Just does the pinwheel thing for a bit and then nothing. Can't click on the 'i' to flip it over and change station either.
Also has these wierd non-functioning scroll bars attached to it now.
Have deleted and re-downloaded a new one three times, still no joy.
Same widget works perfect on wife's MBP.Can anyone recommend a replacement or solution?
I'm outside the UK, btw. -
My Wapha Wising Woundel awwived today. I'm, like, toadly stoked.

Bought a Selle Italia SLR 'Trans Am' Gel Flow for my commuter MTB way back in 2005. I think it cost me about 80 quid brand-new.
Loved it but decided to try a Fizik Arione when I built my first road bike. I didn't get on with the Arione, at all. The (now battered) SLR eventually made its way onto my road bike.
It was destroying my kit (and itself) due to being so worn, but rather than spend $229 on the new hideous version of it, I held out until a replacement popped up on Craigslist - which it finally did, last night.$80, NOS, never even mounted. Stoked.

Looks like they dropped the 'Trans Am' name for 2006, but it's the same saddle.

Clue's in the thread title. Pornography is, first and foremost, about aesthetics. How it looks matters most.
Personally, I don't get excited wondering whether a 6ft 5in retrogrouch with back problems is going to really enjoy riding a hideous bike.
Ergo, I'd say such a bike belongs in the Functional Bikes thread. -

This isn't proper snow camo either, but possibly the look you're after?
I just put the green 'camo' version on my bike. Looks like this.
