I've got a silver 27.2 seat post, branded push, about 26cm of extension. Just like the one on this thread...
http://www.lfgss.com/thread61005.htmlWould anyone swap it for a 26.8 diameter one with a maximum of 22cm extension please?

Well done on getting the frame. Would love to know how much you paid, I'm jealous.
I'm new to stem and headset dimensions, and a bit confused. If you have a 1" steerer tube then you need a 22.2mm stem according to this...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stem_(bicycle_part)#Steerer_tube_diameterI might have a spare one you can have if you want to come to E14 to collect it? I'll have to double check the measurements.

Burberry bar tape?
Ha ha... I can't tell if you're being serious or not. Anyway I suggested it to her and she promptly decided on green.
Hmm... I wonder if Armourtex do tartan paint, might ask them on Monday morning.Surely drops are not a good idea for someone who lacks confidence on a bike.
Also get her to go on bike training. It's probably free from your local council.
She doesn't have to use the drops but they are there if her confidence builds. Riding on the hoods is just like having bullhorns, straight bars would lack the variety of hand positions.

I thought I would start a piece about building up a bike for my missus. She don't really want a bike, won't even pick a colour for me to finish it in, she's scared of bikes. When I was wooing her she drunkenly coasted down a steep hill on my old mountain bike and then at speed clung on for dear life to the front hydraulic disc brake lever... It made her cry, but then I got to comfort her :-D
Since then she's had a hefty 14kg mountain bike we got from Recycle in Elephant & Castle. It hasn't really done much mileage but she has discovered on it that leg muscles can hurt and keep you awake all night if you use them suddenly. Recently I have been through a string of racers and now as I have the right one for me, to keep my hands busy I have started this project.I started off looking for a mixte frame bike because they look fancy and I thought she would appreciate a ladylike fame. I found a Nigel Dean touring bike on ebay...
*Hang on, I think I need to stop you here and state that this is not a fixed gear bike project. I know this is probably the wrong forum to be on but It's the best (first) one I have joined. I did have a BMX once and I promise that I will probably get a fixie one day if my knees feel up to it.*
...l then I realised that she never wears skirts and ditched the mixte idea because a proper, man shape frame would be lighter and easier to find. In the course of searching for a suitable candidate I found a Nigel Dean on Gumtree, here it (she?) is...https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mocfpc26d6cijkx/qdrpIE9Z9a?m
I was really looking for 531c not st because she is not at all muscular and I am a pedant when spec'ing especially when it comes to something for her. At the price it was offered I couldn't refuse, and really it's still light enough for her to pick up when she's on the cyclo-cross track (that will most definitely not happen ever). The bosses for cantilever brakes will give me a bit of peace of mind that she has very strong brakes.
She's reluctantly tried it for size and weight in the living room, and has said she likes it through gritted teeth, so that's a green light for me to commence with the tinkering.
She has small hands so I'm going to put Cinelli Little Wing drop handlebars on because I like the idea of the notches. I may go for short reach Tektro RL341 brake levers but am unsure if the reach may end up too short when combined with the Little Wings. I also might get some RL720 levers on too so she can have 4 brake levers! The last thing I would want is for her not to be able to get to the brakes :-/
I just know that she will never be riding on the drops. It's stripped and ready for a trip to Armourtex, but the colour scheme is still undecided. Ideally it will be fluorescent yellow in keeping with the original set up, however that colour will probably cost more than the bike itself so I need to come up with a plan B. I like the idea of restoration so I might go for Red and get the stickers from Reynolds and H LLoyd, but can I really make her ride a bike called Nigel?? I need some inspiration here, pink is a bit of a cliché.

I am also looking for some Nigel Dean stickers saying "Tour Ace". The script style like you I think... can't see the photo on ebay, they delete them after a while.
Like so...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tgwgy1pi27pxmlw/tourace.JPG?mDid you have any luck?
Any one else got any ideas? -

I've seen these for sale but only in the 40/42cm size, not the 38/40cm. Everyone's out of stock of them!
Thought I'd check if there are any about at all, even if you're not selling them?
Anyone have any idea if they are any good? I'm after some for my missus, she has very small hands.
Seen other similar brands but they mostly seem to be the oversize 31.8 clamp and none have the indents.
I might just get the 40/42... 1 cm either side can't make that much difference surely? -

56cm seat tube (crank centre to top tube centre)
56cm top tube (seat tube centre to head tube centre)I've reluctantly decided she's go to go because I'm feeling a bit like Nicolas Sarkozy on it...Presidential with a beautiful mistress who's too big for me.
Really love this bike it's such a nice ride and beautiful frame, but it needs to go to someone that's the right size, and I need to move on...It's got Bocana lugs, used to belong to a French policeman who paid about €1500 in today's money for the whole bike. He had Mafac Competition brakes, Superchampion rims...can't remember the rest but I might be able to get more info from the guy that sold it to me.
I'd like £170 for the frame & forks, including Stronglight Competition headset, Mavic BB and new SV971 decals from Cyclomondo (although they are a few mm bigger than the originals).
Other parts you might be interested in...
Stronglight Chainset 52 & 42 tooth, 170mm crank length, 1984, white (one dust cap is Raleigh). £20

£60 for the setSimplex SX 1500 seatpost. £7
Belleri stem 22mm diameter, 100mm reach, 25mm clamp (http://www.lfgss.com/thread102097.html) £15

If you want the whole lot as above £280
Can be collected or viewed nearby SE20, SE6 or E14.

Ok I've bought a cheap Reynolds 531st bike, it has a 54cm tt which may cause a problem but my arm was twisted. It really really needs a new paintjob though and I have to get the missus to try the reach to see if it is too much.
If anyone out there has specifically a Reynolds 531 (st or c) frame with a tt less than 54cm but not a track bike, I would still like to hear from you please.
Thanks for all the help folks. -

Hello,
I thought I'd better write a bit about me because I've been totally rinsing out the classifieds since a mate put me on to this forum as an alternative to evilBay. I have a problem whereby I can't stop buying and selling things and the current category has been bikes for the last year or two.
I first got the bug when I bought a Dayton BMX off ebay...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ocx9jaw9uvq0lk1/IMAGE_015.jpg?mMy mate recommended it to me and I had absolutely no idea what I was buying so it was a huge punt (as he is not the most reliable of sorts) but I was absolutely astounded by this bike. There seemed to be no rolling resistance whatsoever, you could get on, give one push on the pedals and it would just keep going on and on.
So I messed round with BMX's for a bit and then bought myself a brand new Cannondale Bay Boy, 26" V brake version. Yet again another astounding purchase if I do say so myself! The tyres are slick, very thick and they have the same diameter as some 700c tyres. So while you can get decent speeds up on what effectively is an old style mountain bike, you can also just bump up kerbs and over potholes without a care in the world.A few of my mates recently bought racers, so I decided to confront my fear of lycra and drop handlebars and join in the fun. I had a bad start, buying a lump of an old Raleigh off ebay...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ja1umfqzy42gb6u/DSCF0108.JPG?mAfter loads of research I concluded that it must be a Richmond, but not a Reynolds version... Oh dear! It had buckled track rims that had a gloss black finish on the braking surface, a plastic wedge saddle and was not as light as I had hoped a racer would be. I also convinced myself that as it was too small for me... You see I have a proportionally long back, I'm a "longshank" and I felt that the Raleigh cockpit was too small. I'm 5'10" and the Raleigh was a 21" frame. Now I have the benefit of hindsight I realise that I should have stuck with the size and fiddled about with stem reach and maybe some saddle post trickery. Anyway I stripped it down and the frame has gone to a good home but I'm still flogging off the rest.
My current bike is a rather pretty and too large for me Super Vitus Grun from 1975.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nh7v0nc66ggnmwi/DSCF0131.JPG?mThe ebay listing was great and the guy gave me loads of info on the previous owner and how he had set it up. When It arrived I was well pleased, although it had a bit of surface rust here and there the paint job and detailing was tres joli! This I told myself was going to be my first proper project! I got a nice set of Campagnolo/Mavic wheels and joined the tubular owners club.
However again I would have benefitted from hindsight, I have spent loads of dosh finishing off the bike with French specific parts, but have the fear in the back of my mind that the top tube will one day become a part of me. I didn't decide this however until my mental illness made me want to buy another bike!I started looking round for a bike for my missus and began looking for lightweight mixte frames. I came across a Nigel Dean tourer and to my bank manager's dismay it was also listed with a matching 21" men's bike. I convinced myself that I had to have them both and let the part of my mind that was trying to tell me the correct size of bike for me in. I would sell off the SV Grun and buy the tourers and we would ride off into the sunset!
Unfortunately I was just outbid on her bike, but I still got mine! :@

Thank-you to all on here that have posted useful information, maybe you will see me one day clad in Penge cc lycra!

I meant maximum as it's for a small frame, but I could saw a bit off. Would you be up for a swap?
