Was working from home and caught the man who's son is in a coma after head on with van and he is now campaigning for compulsory helmets (at least he did say it may have made no difference)
Wouldn't have been nice to grill the poor man but I would have had to ask what if he had been wearing a helmet as was in same condition, what would you be campaigning for then? And more worrying were the responses from the viewers with overwhelming straw poll results on agreement that helmets should be compulsory based on nothing but assumptions. And they are the same people that vote...
Democracy: Also for the misinformed/uninformed.
It's a fair point though what he would be campaigning for if his son has worn a helmet. All helmets tested to Snell? Taking cars with no pedestrian/cyclist crumple zones (a lot of newer cars have these) off the road?

I've seen a pic of that before, anyone have any idea what the intended purpose/benefit of the ridiculous seat tube angle was?
You'd have to stay out the saddle when climbing just to avoid flipping the thing over.
Moser's bike was designed in a wind tunnel, I am assuming the curved seatpost has something to do with wind resistance.
Though his record got beaten later with a rider on a Colnago with conventional angles. Maybe they all just had a bit too much EPO which was legal those days.

Wiggins should do some dope and STFU on cycle helmets.
CTC gathered some info on iPods during cycling, no proof these were indicated in accidents. Which kinda makes sense cos in a car you hear F-all too and have to rely on sight.
My bro has a good story about that: He got followed by a motor bike and turned out to be a copper as his backlight was out. Managed to waffle himself out of a fine too. He's good :)

Jeez I was really just thinking about the skull fracture part. I've always thought a helmet would prevent cuts and bruises but nothing further. Just think they could've added "we believe that.."
Anyway perhaps I'm nitpicking, it's a good article from the next paragraph on.
It may depending on how much force is needed to fracture, helmets help by dividing the impact over a bigger surface. Eg. a sharp kerb VS a helmet. But the force has to be spread, a badly fitted helmet may crack without the polystyrene being pushed in.
If there's a big force over a big area (windshield/car door) helmet may be less effective as absorbing as the surface impact gets spread (glass breaks/door dents). So data on actual accidents is needed to be sure.
But nothing wrong with wearing a helmet, I just wish I wouldn't get lectured when I don't after I nearly got hit by an idiot not looking coming out of a give way junction during broad daylight and some people see them as Magic Bullets for RTCs with cars which may lead to risk taking...
RE walking, see the UK accident statistics on pedestrians. Not being flippant here, enough people crack their skulls as pedestrians. While that's quite counter-intuitive it does happen.

Das Ich - Schwarzer Stern - YouTube
German Industrial/Techno...Das Ich has pretty good lyrics but it helps if you speak German there...

^ OK, granted, a helmet offers some protection. But why don't we wear one when walking? Or in the car? Cos nobody keeps harping on about it? ;)
Helmets in RTC collisions seem to lead to victim blaming of cyclists. No helmet, you "should have worn one". Won't help if your chest is crushed etc. etc.
There's also no clear drop in injuries/accidents where helmet laws exist, so from a country wide perspective victim blaming + cyclists/motorists doing stupid things cos "helmets are magic" may lead to more injuries, not less.
I don't wear one for commuting (where I take very little risks and cycle defensively...) I would when downhilling, racing etc. as I'd probably fall on my face. A lot.

Much like in Socialist Scotland.
Modern Scotland is deep in socialism.
Makes me sick thinking about all that “free” education through university, unilateral nuclear disarmament, steeply progressive taxation and the “eradication” of poverty...
Dumb 'merians use socialism to call names, it's used for anything to blackmail. Scotland is quite a bit more sensible towards many social issues compared to Westminster. From what I've read though, I don't live there.
