Me and my partner did Farnham - Petersfield - Winchester this weekend with a night in a premier inn (fancy). 60km each day with lots of stops was perfect. That section is very doable on 38c if you're confident descending. Only a maybe 1km climb just before the Devil's Punchbowl had us pushing bikes.

Second on marathons. Marathon plus in 32/35/38 are cheap on wistanley at the moment.

I'm thinking about doing Farnham - Winchester this weekend. @mk1mark did you end up doing Winchester - Reading on a cross bike? How was it if so?

I appreciate there's been a lot of rain in the past few weeks, so this may just be mud.
