None of the forks had a long enough steerer unfortunately (need about 200-220mm) apart from a GOKA but seller seems reluctant to provide much info about it. Also the rake for the original for is 38mm, most 1" forks available these days seem to be 45, not sure how that will affect the handling, maybe too twitchy?
Yes did think about silver post and stem but new wheels will be black so think I'll wait till I get them. My other bikes are all silver components so wanted to build something a bit different.

Manged to get this built yesterday and took for a spin this morning . Running 25c tyres at 90psi it feels smooth enough and still fast! Still need to fine tune the gears.
Parts to Update:
Wheels - Khamsin / Fulcrum 7 Lg still to order.
Bottle cage - may go with traditional silver metal cage, will decide once wheels arrive.
Stem - would like something nicer, possibly Thomson X2.
Cable guides - Current ones are stuck on with double sided tape but keep pulling away. Vintage Cannondale are now selling Alu cnc'd ones that fix into holes in the top tube.
Fork - would like a 1 inch carbon e.g. Minimal if I can find at a good price, still looking .
Headset - came with the original Dia Compe Aheadset (1994 so one of the first threadless headsets ?) . Ok but a bit shabby so will update at some point.

Making some progress, ending up buying a new Centaur rear mech as donor mech was causing some issues. Quick build pic: think I'm going to go with the square taper chainset as it matches the rest of the groupset era and I coudn't get hold of a torque wrench for the UT chainset (its just balanced on for the pic).
Will be replacing these wheels with some Khamsin CX as only just noticed both rims are looking pretty concave, shame as I like the silver of these older Ventos..
Also want to get a nicer stem, probably a Thomson X2 to match the seatpost, this one was just a cheapie for testing the length.

@Flandria any reason you went for the Khamsin Asymmetric lacing over the G3, was it just looks? Trying to decide which ones to get, (they're the same price at the moment)

My other half's birthday is coming up in April and I want to get her a bike that she will actually ride and get some use out of. I think dutch style/ hybrid bike is the way to go but have been disappointed looking at Bobbin, Pendleton etc. They're all bottom end spec and so heavy! (15KG+) A real shame, there's a gap in the market here. I think a custom build is the way to go, for under £300 think I can do something much better around the 10kg mark.
Plan is to powder coat a frame in RAL6027 (celeste) and add brown leather saddle and grips, probably the obligatory wicker basket as well. Inspiration (have searched high and low for a decent 531 mixte in 17" but no luck):
Starting point is this Ridgeback hybrid frame I picked up cheap. Alloy step through frame (1.5kg) + steel fork (1kg). Not ideal but much lighter than a gas pipe frame.
Component wise have the following options:
Transfer parts from her old, too large Raleigh Pioneer with 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub. Will still need to buy V brakes, levers, new stem and headset as the Ridgeback is 1 1/8 threaded. Also needs new tyres, saddle, grips etc. Estimate around £230 cost. Haven't been able to set hub gears set up properly, I think due to dodgy shifter , but could be a dead end if hub is knackered . Also not sure 3 speeds is suitable for hilly Bristol.
Complete new build with 1 x 8 Alivio/Deore group, new wheels. Estimate this will come in nearer £380 (including sale of old bike) so over budget.
Find a donor bike for parts, difficult to find something in good condition / of good quality. I have seen a Pinnacle Neon 1 for sale locally so this could be used for parts or failing that just respray the Neon instead and add some North Road bars. It doesn't quite have the classic look or step through frame so I'm not sure if this will look a bit weird? It does come in under 10KG though! Estimate total cost £280 (including sale of old bike).

About to purchase a set of Campagnolo Khamsin wheels - is there any advantage to the G3 lacing pattern which is about £12 more? Is it significantly stronger / stiffer or just for show? They are both asymmetric rims, but is one easier to true than the other (or is this strictly a shop job)?
Also considering at the CX version for the seals as they will be used on a year round commuting bike..

All items include P&P from Bristol
F.R.M. CNC'd stem 1 1/8" 100mm length. 25.4 clamp Beautiful lightweight stem 128 grams, rise is +/- 6 degrees . Slim diameter of body works really well with traditional steel frames. Nice alternative to Thomson X2 and slightly lighter I think? Ive read online that the bar clamp was designed with tolerance to accept 26.0 bars as well but I don't have bars to test this. Minor corrosion to steerer clamp bolts but easily replaceable, front bolts are new (all steel). RRP for ti bolt version is around £95. So £30? Or trade for Thomson X2 31.8 bar clamp 100mm in black
Campagnolo Nuovo Record Headset - is starting to index due to very slight brinelling barely visible on crown race and lower cup , someone with a better touch than me may be able to keep it smooth. Top race and cup are excellent. New grade 10 bearings. I believe parts can be used from the Tange copy if you want to replace. Otherwise spares and repairs so £25
Campagnolo Gran Sport Headset- same design and low stack height as Campagnolo Pista Headset (34mm I think) just with two flats on upper cup. This should have 2 cages of 25 x 5/32 balls but came on a frame with 2 cages of 25 x 3/16 balls (also replaced with Grade 10). Cages are stamped Campag so these may be from a NR headset. I was using it like this none the wiser and its works ok. Top race and cup are excellent. There is however pitting to the crown race and lower race, I think due to water ingress. But again I have used it on a commuter for 18 months with plenty of grease and not really noticed when riding. Otherwise spares and repairs so again £25
Campagnolo Veloce bottom bracket 111mm iso taper, British thread. Threads slightly worn but will go in fine if your bottom bracket shell is clean! £15
Ive tried to show the condition of all items but let me know if you have any questions or need more pics, or if prices are way off .
cheers

Have run into an issue - I have a Daytona 10 speed rear mech missing the rear cage plate and jockey wheels and bolts. Used a doner Veloce 10 speed rear mech but the bolts are about 2mm too short. Looks like the Daytona front cage plate is not countersunk as deep. Strange as they are both 10 speed. The only bolts I could find that might be long enough (16mm) were KCNC at 15.5 so have ordered on ebay.

Groupset is a bit of a mixed bag of Record/Chorus/Centaur/Daytona. Have a square taper and UT chainset, think I'm going to try out the UT as not used it before.
3T erganova bars courtesy of the forum. Not too keen on the Truvativ stem but just testing reach for the bars as they're compacts, will probably swap out for something nicer at some point

I've no idea, doesn't seem to mention them in the brochures, my rear dropouts have one threaded hole on either side, I presumed they were for mudguards.. Can I see a pic of your rear?
