My parents are both pretty keen twitchers, especially now they're both retired. My best 'life tick' to date was spotting a Golden Eagle in the wild above Glen Nevis when I was maybe 11 or 12. We'd gone out to look for one especially, and I was seriously pissed at just having seen crows/buzzards all day; I remember saying, "oh look, another bloody crow" or something along those lines after spotting something in the distance, and then realising my mistake as one soared overhead. It was majestic.

Oh totally - I just think the 'official' mailchimp messages and the fact that the cafe could attract a larger/diverse crowd made it much easier to get a group together.
That'd be good. I've also seen the Evans groups rides advertised, and Jack mentioned something about a Fat Cat/Streelife collab too. Might just have to start tagging on to other people's.

Ah I see. I wish I had the dedication to get up before work, but it's just not going to happen. Midweek rides should be more of a fixture now it's light though. Would be nice to get a bunch out more regularly again - those Sunday Dandy rides were always great - we should get a group together with a similar ethos.

Good job @bengreen I remember thinking it sucked the first time I dragged myself up there too, but I just kept doing it and now it's ok - climbs are sooo much easier when you know what's coming.
On a similar note, I tackled that really steep bit off the side of the Ringland loop the other day @BareNecessities and it was expectedly horrible. I was probaly down to about 30rpm. All the slow-twitch anaerobic gains though!

Thanks guys. I generally don't spin too fast - I will happily sit on the flat ~90rpm as that's roughly 20mph - my biggest concern with gearing down is wildly spinning out on any long descents (another thing we don't have in Norwich!). I think I might just go with my current gear and sling another chainring in my bag just in case.

Hi chaps. I'm heading up your way in July to visit a friend/do some riding, and I'm wondering whether it'll be wise to gear down for the trip. I currently ride 49x18 (71.5"), but that's in Norwich/rural Norfolk so there are rarely any hills I can't muster. My friend in Manchester is a bit of a masochist (and also a super-fit GB para-triathlete guide swimmer/rider/runner/) so I'm expecting him to take me on some punishing climbs in the Peaks, but as I've never ridden a prolonged steep climb fixed, I'm not sure what to expect/what I'll be able to take. Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated. Cheers, Al.

Does anybody want/need any clipless road pedals/cleats?
I experimented with the road set up, but couldn't get the cleats far enough back on my shoes for it to feel totally comfortable, so I've got:
A pair or relatively rare 80s Mavic 645 LS clipless pedals (basically the first Look design) and Look Delta Red cleats (with 9 degree float) to go with them. Second hand pedals - wear in line with their age. New cleats.
Modern Shimano SPD-SL R540s in silver, with both the yellow (6 degree float) and blue (two degree float) to go with them. Only a few rides in - pedals and cleats all in good condition.
Thinking £15 for either bundle - will post pics if there's interest.
Let me know!

@jakjakjak Ah yes, I forgot we had discussed that. Let me know if you do find them and we'll set up a time for some mixed doubles!

Totally off topic, but does anyone on here play tennis in Norwich? I've joined the Norwich Parks Tennis club (at the Eaton Park courts) for the calendar year, and am looking for some more hitting partners. Let me know if you're interested; membership gets me tennis for free, so you'd only need to bring a racket to play!

Not sure about the yellow guy, I did spot @jdp cruising down Earlham Road at about 16.00 today though!

I am yeah - wanna swing by now? cough bring the bike with your new wheels cough
Ugh, forgot to press reply @bengreen

Not bothered - nowhere too far though, as I have a man-date planned with @Rikki at some point on Sunday too!
