Had a mental block, moving the cog further out is the opposite of what you want to do. Sorry.

I assume as you mention a Pompetamine this wheel is said bike and not a Pompino. If it is for a Pompino you need a wheel with an OLD of 120 mm. From the picture it looks like there are some spacers after the cog on the outside which could move to the inside. The chainline needs to be much closer otherwise the drivetrain will be really noisy and will wear fast.

I will be building a disc brake front wheel for my Pompino and seek some component advice. I'll probably go with a Dt Swiss R460 rim, but am undecided on the hub. I'm torn between a Shimano Deore XT and a Hope Pro 4 or the Superstar Components Switch Ultra. The last two appeal as they will be directly compatible with my Escapade's thru axle fork (although Superstar are out of stock of the 9mm axle adaptors), the Shimano hub appeals on price and the simplicity and speed of centre-lock.

Given that the wheel will be mainly used in a Surly Disc Trucker fork and will see about 30 miles a day, every day in all weather and I have the tools to service all the hubs what are the thoughts on the best option or alternatives. I assume for a disc hub 32 spoke 3x would be my best bet for a solid wheel.

Surly 2 seconds with an m10 nut, which all bikes shops surely have, and they could have solved it. Looking at the CRC website, it states the keys have a unique serial number which implies, to me, that it's not a universal key.

I'm unsure if you could make a warranty claim if the mudguard has been modified ie drilled. On the V3 and earlier models the downward facing hole on the wishbone stays made sense to me, it certainly made the mudguard attachment neat. Now the wishbone stays have gone I'm not sure.

I put an o-ring round the bolt between the mudguard and fixing hole in the frame.

I have a Hope hub which has an internal tube, similar to what you describe, and I can spin the bearings independently. I think I understand what you mean and have no idea of the name or purpose of this tube.

Even if they would only move together I cannot see how this would affect back pedalling.

Is the derailleur cage bent?

What is it doing? You don't need a rear mech with a clutch. In my experience a 1x drivetrain with a narrow-wide chainring does make more noise than a "normal" 2x drivetrain.

Thanks. Looks interesting for touring. I note Sturmey Archer's site also lists some fixed three speed hubs. Unsure if that is what they really mean though.

Wouldn't the axle to crown distance be off if it was the 26"?

Ta. If you contact Kryptonite they send a replacement cover free. I replaced mine recently on an old New York recently won't be able to do it again easily though as the bolt heads were as soft as butter and are now destroyed.

@RogerO'Bicycle should have asked, as an owner of both the Abus 401 and Kryptonite Evolution Mini how do the sizes compare side by side ie is one internally wider/longer than the other? I have the Abus 401 and it's a bit small for my liking.

@RogerO'Bicycle why do you prefer the yellow Abus 401 over the Evolution? I know the Abus one is a little thicker but it bugs me that it has no protection for the key slot.

My guess is that those black end caps pull off, like on Hope hubs.

Unless, I'm just being inept, I couldn't see a Shipman drop bar brake only hydro lever ie no shifter.

@edscoble recommended a hydro brake for flat bar use, which I'll probably get. However, one day I may put drop bars back on my Pompino, is there a calliper which has both flat bar and drop bar levers available?

I purchased some of the spray years ago, still got it, but it's an expensive way to purchase it.
