Such a tragedy. He was out for a group ride with his mates apparently. It's a notorious staggered crossing across the A420 which is a dual carriageway here. We use it occasionally on club rides, you have to careful judging the speed of motorists here who will often hugely exceed the speed limit (100mph is not uncommon). I'm not judging the cause of this collision though until we know the full details.
RIP and thoughts to his family and friends.

Wow, serious flooding. Pretty though. Did you plough through or go around?
That's nothing compared to what we dealt with on The Poor Student in January!!
Good ride even if the route sheet was a bit random at times! I finished the 200km at 6.40pm still feeling strong. Ride out to Quainton was awesome with a great control. Riding through Oxford, Abingdon and Didcot to Chilton I was on auto-pilot as I know all of those roads. I got taken out by a motorist on The Plain in Oxford who decided not to give way to the right, no damage to me or bike thankfully.
I had lunch at home near Abingdon which was a nice way to break the ride up into two halves and therefore missed the reported huge delays at the Head of the River.
High Wycombe was navigationally challenging. As was the section after Burnham Beeches where the route sheet didn't seem to bear any relationship to reality at all!
The Uxbridge Road was unpleasant in the dusk. Not sure what we were meant to see in Southall, the last info control was in a housing estate. Managed to group up with a local who led me back to Ruislip otherwise I might have been tearing my hair out trying to find my way back in the dark.
The pub at the end was pretty much deserted, I've seen a few comments about it but I didn't linger, got my card stamped and went home.
Easily my fastest 200km so far but it is the first one I've done when it hasn't been a) blowing a gale and/or b) pouring with rain and/or c) starting and finishing in the dark and/or d) cycling through 12" of floodwater.
Look forward to doing it again, hopefully with a slightly less complicated and proofread routesheet ;)
Cheers
John

Tribute to rider in today's Oxford Mail. He was a regular cyclist of the road using it every day to get to work at the BMW works in Cowley from Chalgrove...

It's just linkbait.
Typical article starting with a "joke" and then following it up with a rant about most of the things that were in the "joke" anyway.
Unfortunately these articles enforces the us/them attitude in the tiny brains of the minority of motorists who have it in for cyclists. It's hate speech and incitement to violence.

Very unlikely to be able to make the ride now I'm afraid. If I happen to be able to get to Christmas Common to meet with the ride to Oxford then I'll be there but don't wait (not that you would!).

Disgraceful sentencing. There are no excuses for not seeing the cyclist. A completely straight road before sunset in late May, the cyclist had lights and forensic evidence suggests that they were on at the time.
It's a road I cycle along often http://goo.gl/maps/hqAWS, it's inconceivable that an attentive driver would just drive into the back of a cyclist at 60mph along there.

I've gone off Laura Trott, I expect she'll be devastated to hear.
Yet another professional/celebrity cyclist who hasn't got the first idea about cycling in the real world. It sounds like she hasn't actually ever ridden a bike in London (other than in the velodrome of course).
I don't want her as my "cycling ambassador" until she gets a clue and stops victim blaming.
