Ta da! After much fretting and faffing and welding and grinding, here is the frame with the fork!

The next job is grinding down the weld on the fork so that it turns smoothly in the head tube.
The lining up and cutting down if the head tube so everything was right took ages, it was good in the end though.
After I'm finished I'm going to put it together on Thursday, and then I'll see you on Sunday at London calling for tall bike jousting ;)

I mean there's no reason to disparage all Evans stores based on this experience, there are lots of other reasons to shit on Evans but I would say this isn't one of them. With that said though, doing something with the wrong tools, in a way that can damage the customer's property, without consulting them is very very shit customer service. A simple "hey buddy we can bodge it for you with an X and Y but we're not going to be able to do it properly right now" would suffice. And I definitely think not giving the customer a quote before doing something that is going to cost them money is abysmal. Tantamount to me helping an old lady across the street (cliche-est cliché I could think of), and then when we get to the other side being like "that's a fiver please". Obviously there are some differences due to a shop being a retail environment where money is commonly exchanged for goods and services, but still, I think my point still stands.
Basically uninformed consent is not consent, and the shop assistant didn't even ask for consent to do things in the way he did.
(I'm probably especially bitter cause Evans rejected my application and if their current employees are this silly, why won't they hire me!)

Did a bit of work on Sunday but not as much as I'd have liked, partially due to transporting the welding kit via bike trailer. Hopefully finishing it tomorrow.

The weld is pretty fucking ugly cause I only learned to weld about a week ago, it is however strong as fuck, and that's what matters.
Also chopped up and welded the fork but forgot to take a photo so will take one tomorrow.

Re gear ratio it's basically going to be pretty normal, well, the actual chainring/sprockets are huge due to Brompton cranks, but the ratio is just going to be around low 70s I guess.
As for getting on, you just put your right foot on the right pedal when it's at its lowest, hold onto the handle bars, push a little with your left foot until you have enough momentum, and then push up on the pedal to lift yourself onto the bike.

A while ago I decided to build a tall bike, this venture was partially fuelled by watching the documentary Be Inclusive Kill Exclusivity and also wanting to ride around central London shouting about how the apocalypse is coming or something. And being high up is fun.
After sourcing the first frame:

Which was ridden by a friend when he was hit by a car and all of the components bar the frame were royally fucked, I searched for another and found this lovely Raleigh with a broken dropout for free on the classifieds forum (thanks mrgumby!):

So with 2 frames (for free!) I tried to go about getting some tubing. Turns out that is fucking hard. Luckily my friend had a tall bike fork already, unfortunately it's 700c and I plan to have a 26" front wheel in the hope of preventing wheelies, so we're going to chop the steerer off of the old tall cork and weld it onto my 26" fork.

I finally started work on it yesterday, just basic stuff, chopping the stays off of the top frame, as thus:

In my infinite incompetence I managed to gouge the seat tube slightly with the angle grinder, but it will be fine. Must be more careful.

And then looking at how it all lines up with a broom. Brooms are good tools.

Hopefully doing the welding this Sunday, then putting the bike together shortly after.
All of the parts were acquired due to being cheap or free and as a result of that I have some fun stuff. Highlights include Brompton cranks and a f.u.n.n mountain bike stem.

It's going well! Doing the welding on it this weekend, been chopping bits off of the frames today, going to post a current projects thread tonight!

I bought this frame to become part of my tall bike, but decided it was too nice for that fate! But it's become a beater I've decided to sell due to lack of space/money.
Most of the parts are random things I don't know the brand of but I'll list what I know.

After the third time of being mistaken for a courier and having the embarrassment of telling them I'm not I am considering changing my aesthetic.

DAS'd someone wearing a forum cap on Whitechapel highstreet, got a nice wave but no skid, I assume due to the low speed.

I've been really enjoying 48/17 on my main bike, but I built a beater the other day and (partly due to finding the chainring in the bin) it's 44/18. It's a big difference but the lower gear is really nice, can't really spin very well so my speed has significantly decreased but slowing down and stopping and general control is really nice. I like both for different reasons, but hey who knew it, lower gear ratios are fun.

Being polyglamorous is amazing when it works, but terrible when it doesn't, and isn't for everyone. Much like monogamous relationships.

Interested in campy cap and endura long sleeve! Pm incoming.

I'm partial to alcohol free beer. I'm pretty sure that makes me the devil.

Home made lemonade and limeade with non processed sugars to sweeten it are great. Maybe not fizzy but it's the sweetness I like not the fucking bubbles.

I got a geared bike today and am really enjoying coasting.

But also am amazed at having to do lots of things at once (I got a bit flustered when I had to avoid potholes whilst turning a corner, pull brake and shift down)
