Made a last minute decision to do a local sprint yesterday, having decided in July that it was the end of my season. No really intense bike or run sessions, and no runs off the bike, but it was only a sprint so knew I’d at least get around. Got a tt bike a couple of weeks back but only ridden it once and never ran off it so opted to stick with the road bike for this.
Swim - went out too hard, had to doggy paddle to catch my breath after the first 200m, settled in then after that, 13th out of the water, happy enough
T1 - forgot to unbuckle my bike shoes so wasted a couple of seconds doing that, otherwise fairly smooth, must pick up tri shoes for next year
Bike - felt good, clawed back a good bit of time. Course was rolly enough, a few long drags that probably suited a bigger powerful rider, caught a guy that sat straight onto my wheel so I asked him not to, he suggested we work together to make life a bit easier, I said it’s not in the spirit of the sport, he told me to go f myself, so I pushed on and dropped him. Heard the announcer saying I was 5th into T2
T2 - uneventful
Run - Hard start to the run course, straight into a hill, heart was in my ears at this point, unpleasant guy I met on the bike danced past me like a gazelle (and went on to finish 5th overall and 1st in our age group), I lost 4 more places and finished 10th overall and 2nd in my age groupHappy enough considering I could have prepped better if I’d known I was doing it. That really is it for the season now tri-wise. Away on a work cycling trip this week, 3.9km swim the following week, and local half marathon in early October then I’m done.

Starting to click a bit with the swimming lately, tagged along to a low key invite only (for safety reasons) local race on Saturday, first time lake swimming, managed second overall with an average pace of 1:37/100m for 1,350m. Out this morning in the sea and felt comfortable cruising at 1:47/100m for 1,650m.
Final sprint tri of the season on Sunday and doing a 3.9km open water race mid September and that’ll be me almost ready to relax for a couple of weeks before returning to the pool for winter.

Exactly this, I have 4 ikea sockets dotted around the house that I originally used purely as signal boosters, but have since found a use for two of them to control lamps. The other two are still unused. I’ve also since added a couple of dimmable ikea bulbs for bedroom lamps.
On the topic, just received an aqara roller shade driver to step up my sunrise/sunset linked automations and it linked up to zha instantly and works perfectly. Need to fit it in my office and set the limits and will trial it for a week before ordering one for every room.

I’d probably be more worried about run off in the days after heavy rain rather than day of heavy rain. Even then I’ve swam most days after heavy rain, as it never really stops raining on the west coast of Ireland.
That all said I’m sure run off in rural Ireland is a bit different to run off in a city, and the Atlantic is a bigger body of water than the river.
TLDR; I’d probably go anyway and just not drink the water. Can of coke afterwards to nuke anything per the old wives tale

To be honest it was canyon I was looking at as a value for money entry into tt (limited used options in Ireland), and none of their current offerings are uci legal.
A guy I know can get ex team canyon and pinarello in October/November so worst case I’ll have that to fall back on, knowing they’ll be uci approved, but it would be nice to get hold of something sooner.

Is it no longer possible to buy a uci approved tt bike off the peg? I’ve dabbled in a couple of tri’s, and there are local tt, team tt and duathlon series’ through autumn and winter, so looking to pick up a tt bike, but most brands seem to now only offer triathlon bikes to the masses. Is this because unless you’re racing road events at a certain level, they really couldn’t care less if the bike is uci approved or not as long as it’s safe? I know tri bikes are probably faster but I wanted to keep my racing options open.

First go at a sprint tri earlier (and 2nd ever tri).
Went out so hard on the swim I thought I was going to have to stop after 500m and gather myself but slogged my way to the finish, 9th out of the water. Reasonable t1, faffed a bit with cycling shoes, must pick up some proper tri shoes. Had a decent bike leg, passed a few, got passed by a few, set the 11th fastest bike leg of the day, on my steel road bike, negotiations ongoing to justify purchase of tt bike. Reasonable t2. Run slightly improved on the last tri I done but was still a slog and I lost a few places.
Finished 14th overall, fairly content with that, but that’s it for my tri season now. Bring on next year!

Another weekend, another open water race. There’s been lots of rain lately so the current was pretty strong, which is a great ego booster looking at the numbers. Done enough to bag 8th out of 75 starts so happy enough with that. Doing a 3km race in the sea this day next week, assuming the stormy weather dies down…

1:15 for a sprint is decent!
