Here's a new project I'm starting, my neighbour just moved out and offered me this hand built Italian frame made of columbus tubing for a mere £15. Then he through in a Campag front derailleur, Dura Ace rear derailleur, seatpost, bottom bracket, brake levers, headset and 1 x 700C wheel (missing 1 spoke, but otherwise great condition).
Everyone has said to me "there must be something wrong with it", but genuinely, there is nothing wrong apart from the paint job needing a respray.
So, let me show you this beaut!

Front
Rear (yes I also bought some black converse from him! Proof it was £15)I feel lucky to have the chance to get this thing back together and so far have only shelled £15 for it. I am buying Cinelli handlebars and cinelli quill stem from him for another £20 as it's a pretty great deal too.
I've never built a road bike, only single speeds so there's a lot to learn and I've also decided to build some wheels for this beast in the process. I've also heard that mixing Campag and Dura Ace is a sin, so I need to make my mind up now whether I go with one or the other. I'm feeling Campag but maybe that's all the hype I read here.
Here's a picture of the parts laid out (minus the headset, pretty boring to see that):

So I need the following:
Respray + masking (approx £70)
Rear wheel (£50 - £100)
Crankset (£100 - £150)
Cassette (£80)
Chain (£15)
Brakes (£20)
Gear Levers (Will get these 3D printed from shapeways, ~£25)
Saddle (£20)
Tyres (£25 each)
Tubes (£5 each)Anything I'm missing? Any advice? Any errors in price guestimates?
First stop, respray. I have decided on a dark PLUM colour and keep the chrome parts.

Hello, I have been stripping back what seems to be a pretty old bike, I have a lot of BB tools and so far everything came off like a cinch, except this bit...

It's very thin and approx a 28/30 wrench
Here it is again but with the outer part, seems a bit strange. Cannot find anything about this online.

Driving me mad... It needs to be gone. Any ideas? Do I need to borrow a vice?
PS. I know the paint job is disgusting — it was given to me like this, I'm just building it for a friend :)

I've got the dosh and the energy to act quickly picking things up. I have been searching the forum everyday for a few weeks and picked up some sweet parts for a bike I'm building a mate.
Forkfound this which fits my needs (measured the wheel and it can take 700C) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390888605923
Looking for a 1" threaded fork, drilled, with 170mm steerer. Does anyone have one of these? Decent headset would be great too...Crankset
Anything decent and cheap, can be second hand. Needs to be square fit and come with crank bolts. Will be going on to a square taper, Italian thread Shimano UN55. Looking to spend < £50 for the whole shebang.16T Freewheel
This is not a fixie kind of guy, he wants coasting ability. So a nice little freewheel should do the trick.Cheers!

Look sweet, but too much for me. Added a picture.

This is great, I am very tempted to come join. Thanks for setting it up.
Is there any chance of setting up a similar thing on the road course?
They don't allow brakeless bikes on the road course but with a club I'm sure the case would be different, I've emailed the guy that runs the joint for more information.
Would be fun to do some SS/FG races and with your own bike. I'm not interested in geared bikes and they seem to be the only races currently available.
Aside from that, straight up single-speed/fixed riding would be fun if others are not into racing.

Thanks so much!
I think you're right, 130BCD based on the Sugino Messenger replacement chainsets.
I ride quite hard and am looking for something that will put up with abuse. Do you have any recommendations?
Also, increasing tooth count to say 46T/48T, how would that affect ride? Faster/slower acceleration/topspeed?

Hello!
I have a Sugino messenger crankset and now the chainring needs replacing, I could buy another Sugino 44T chainring but I've read that they're bad for wearing out (that's why I'm replacing mine).
Can I use the rest of the crankset but just change the chainring to something like a stronglight?
I ride track casually for fun on a SS and the rest of the time it's my get about bike.
Any ideas?
This frame looks seriously hot. Love the condition.
