Interesting frame. Do you fancy a swap for an impulsive buy (ha,ha) track frame?

I use a converter on a bike I run. At the time, I was experiencing a bit of lower back pain. I flipped the stem to give me a more elevated position on the bike. Result - decreased back pain! I'm old enough to value comfort.
Try and obtain a 3t or cinelli 25.8/26.0 stem to fit the converter. Generally speaking these are slimmer, more muted and crucially do not detract too much from the aesthetic appearance od skinny tubed steel frames.
I would have no objection to using the same set up again -it works.

The thread's gone quiet - so here's my workaday 'roller complete with ancient carradice saddlebag and equally ancient bag support. This more or less gets used every day sometimes for rides around the fifty mile mark. Lovely 32mm tyres keeps the ride well cushioned and comfortable. I love my 'roller.

Hi, I bought one of these S2 frames in Kinoko's closing down sale. I'm unsure whether to build or sell onI've yet to build it u yet though. My questions are:
Is your complete build heavy
Do you get any toe clip overlap
How does the bike ride

Excellent frameset these. Reliable, solid and totally bombproof. Initially, the roller feels a tad heavy. However, once you're up and rolling the miles tick past quite nicely - it feels quick = what's not to like!

Excellent job Schnelly. Take a bow for bringing the frame back to life. I bet that riding this bike will give you more pleasure than just buying one off the peg. I had an old Dawes Jaguar and kept that going for 30 years until some **** nicked it from outside my flat!

It needn't cost an inordinate amount of your hard earned money to put something decent together.
I own 3 Raleighs, I doubt if they cost me £300 quid each. My latest is a 3040 Como effort - a good solid, reliable winter hack. I aid £40 for the frame. I added a new set of lightish wheels £120 and built up the rest with second hand parts, Total cost £250 for a bike which will go through the grime of winter and perform light touring duties. Don't rush in to your build. Look through the classifieds here and other sites and ask if you have problems. In my experience, forum users are only to eager to help. Good luck with the build.

Very interesting discussion about otp steel frames. Cupcakes, it looks like second hand and a respray if you want a decent lightweight frame. Alternatively, simply sit in a cramped uncomfortable position for an hour or so to give you that authentic aluminium buzz.

Shame about the Diamant - is it really beyond rectification?

Classy build. My crosscheck is a tad on the heavy side but when I ride it I forget about it because
the ride is a pleasure. I can't keep up with my mates' light roadsters but who cares when you ride a bike that is so sooth and forgiving over all terrain?

crank length doesn't really matter - it's a question of preference really.
If you ride with others shorter is better on your own longer.
I use 175s but I'm 14stone and I need some leverage to hoist myself and steel frame up the climbs.
This I do slowly.

A process of elimination might suggest that it could be a problems with the nipples.
I had a similar problem where my local LBS mechanic reckoned the spokes were causing the nipples to split thus causing the wheel to be out of true!

I've always thought that chainsets were one area where you can save money. I never understood why folk pay so much for one. The sturmey looks quite smart too - good choice.

Brilliant Pompy Chicken stuffed with Haggis! Anyone who can average 15-16mh on a pomp must have thighs like a pro bodybuilder. A very entertaining and hugely enjoyable read.
So I need to get into training to push my 55 year old self to do something like this. I think though a more sedate 50-60 miles per day would be my aim. I'd better start saving up for carbon forks.

I've never attained a 20mph speed in the park. I did once overtake an old chap on a knackered hybrid that looked to welded from scaffolding tubes and managed a frisson of excitement.
Can't recall any unpleasantness from motorists. I like the park it creates a feeling of relaxation. A bit like living in an ambient fog.

Did you do the whole LEJOG on a fixed wheel pompino?
How about posting some more details , eg daily distances / gearing/ tyres etc
I did 3 days in East Anglia and I was feeling ****ed most of the time!

Vittoria Randoneur tyres are an absolute pig to get on and off.
It got to the stage where I was very concerned about a puncture and not being able to wrestle the tyres on and off. It quite spoilt my ride for a while - so back to marathons and no punctures!
