I've lost my mojo for club rides. They get faster, I get older and slower.
I wouldn't mind being bailed out of the back whilst blowing like a whale - the fact is I never get there! I can't even get on the back!Instead, I've now taken to getting up later on a weekend and go out for a 30 mile ride on my steamroller and call in for a pint on my way home. Result much happiness.
Old and slow is the way to go and I get to admire the flora and fauna of
my local areas. Basically I set myself the goal of being able to ride 50 mile
touring days in summer. I think I can keep this going for a while. It's liberating in that I don't have to buy the latest kit too. -

Years ago, I had the chance to buy one of the dynatechs new relatively cheaply.
My mate who was a metallurgist said to watch out for the lugs as they were glued in.
To my regret, I didn't purchase one. Yours, theoj, still seems to be going strong. I've seen several examples of modern kit on oldish frames - I think it can work. So good luck with the build. -

Excellent build Mr Grubbythumb. I've seen a few examples of vintage frames
built up with modern groupsets. Yours looks very good especially with the white turbo saddle. I've got a mid 80s bob Jackson frame lurking in the shed - you've given me an idea for something a bit different. Enjoy your rides. -

I tried to buy one too in the closing down sale. Didn't have my size. Like you Lemonade, I haven't found anything close to it.
C88 - I like your classic build. What's wrong with friction shifters?
They work quite well and are especially good for touring like your LEJOG trip.
The prospect of having STIs fail on a tour is too horrible to think about! -
Enter your text here.. I use my cc for touring. I like riding sustrans trials at weekends. I thought about buying a pacer and using it as a tourer. Certainly the road geometry would give it a bit more zip than the cc.
However, I'd then lose the versatility of the cc particularly off road!
It all gets a bit confusing. Perhaps I should just run a 'roller, cc and pacer so all eventualities are covered. -

The Kaffenback maybe 12kg when equipped with gears etc.
However, does this matter that much? You will have a comfortable ride - one which won't loosen your fillings after you've done 40-50 miles!
My crosscheck weighs in at 24/25 lbs and I don't care. It's a pleasure to ride a bike with fatter tyres and comfort. To be honest I did run a ribble racing bike for a while, that was light but so what - I never enjoyed the experience of riding it. Build the bike and enjoy your rides. -

I have a lovely Mid 80s Bob Jackson frame 531 superlight tubing
Seat Tube - 61c-t
To Tube - 57 c-c.
126mm across the rear triangle.
The frame is in top quality condition and was resprayed by its previous owner. It comes with a headset (not sure of the make - but one of quality)
Significantly, there are no brazeons for cables or bottle cages which leads me to think that this was a time trial or fixed racing machine. I purchased the frame 18months ago with every intention of building it up but haven't got round to it and probably never will! I paid 200 quid for it probably slightly over the odds - however I'll offer it to you for 180!
I also have a rear fixed wheel spaced at 126mm which will fit the frame.
