Yep, still got the ride token from Mrs Y. But today I've managed to leave my stem bag on a tow path after flipping my bike over to check it and seems I've got a kinked chain and a locked link which is slipping - maybe its salvageable.

I drove mine everywhere to start with plus I was taking bands gear out to gigs too, but my salary to fuel-price ratio was significantly better in 2003 than it is now. I had a puddle of brake fluid in the 2nd month - caliper from the breakers was £30 something inc delivery and a mate helped me fit it. Otherwise only had basic consumables go on it and a rusty drivers side wheel arch that seemed to need constant rust attention - probably my bad bodywork skills tbf.

Engine light comes on our 2.0 TDI Touran if we do a long motorway journey at a more economical 60mph or slower in 6th. Blast it for a couple of mins at 3.5k rpm in a low gear and it clears. Mechanic said they just hate being driven at low revs for too long or pootling around town and benefit from a "good Italian tune up"

Similarly, our previous Golf TDI went into limp mode after a very long and tedious stop/crawl session on the M25 - turned out to just be a dirty sensor.

"Oh, didn't realise you'd be gone all day, I thought you was just going for a bike ride" is the response I got this evening when I laid out my plans. Apparently I'm needed so now need to stay relatively close to home with an early start.
I've knocked up a 60km off road loop around Hertfordshire. Could start the loop from where the Stort flows into the Lee at the southerly point - easy ride up to there from Hackney Marshes. I intend a quick swim at Glen Faba at the end, too. Let me know if you're still interested, will Brighton another day though!

Thinking maybe the offroad ride to Brighton if that's any good? Would be all new to me anyway, I've only had an mtb all of 1 week so just itching to get out. Easy / Social pace & weather depending.

Just a basic OTP but signed up to CTW scheme and got my first MTB since being a teenager in the 90s. Looking forward to hooning around the Hertfordshire countryside this summer and maybe a spot of bikepacking too. I've spent too long on 25mm tyres, these 2.25" are like balloons!

Do you know was it a Grey Wagtail or a Yellow Wagtail?

It was a grey - grey upper but a very luminous yellow bottom half, wether that was the sunlight and contrast with the mud or a mating season boost of colour I don't know. I think it was catching the first of the mayfly in swift darts out across the water then back to the flat to potter about.

Got all excited to say I saw my first ever Grey Wagtail today, though you have a far superior photo compared to my Monet-esque digital zoom attempt. Saw it flash under the bridge I was on and thought "Kingfisher? No, wait, that was yellow!?" Looked over the other side and it circled back to land on a mud flat on the bend of the river.

Very broad brushes were used to diagnose issues "back in the day" so I wouldn't doubt she has been told that at some point in her life. From my ltd investigations into my own kids I'd say it's certainly an ADHD and/or anxiety trait though.

Just to say, I've been riding 20" since I was 7 in 1990, there just wasn't any other options... we bought what the older kids had trashed and fixed them up best we could. We never considered sizes on a bmx until we were teenagers, didn't stop us resting sheets of ply on whatever we could find and jumping off it. Your kid will love it!
