I used to do the same, big muff + delay + resting the headstock on the stack for a feedback bowed sound. Used to get some wild harmonics come through live, loved that. I nearly got one of those Stagg electric uprights super cheap but got talked out of it for a 5 string fretless Warwick which was amaze.
Our tamed down (boo!) version in the studio...

Did nobody suggest alt/mixed grip? I tried hook but it was so uncomfortable. Mixed grip took me up to 2x bodyweight and at that point I could only manage 3 reps instead of 5 due to grip. You do start to see some muscle differences on the left/right side upper back though, but I'm not a body builder so I didn't care so much. Also +1 for liquid chalk!

At the start of the backing track have a square wave "Beep", hold the backing track earphones to the mic to record the beep. When you import, zoom in and sync the beep as best as you can. As its just vocals you don't need to be precise as there is nothing else to cause any phasing through being a few m/s misaligned

If I actually do any singing I plan to do mine in the middle of a field at 6am pre-dawn chorus. Backing track from the phone and record to minidisk. But seeing my lack of confidence and lack of lyrics I might end up with an Essex-Arab Strap spoken track which I can do from home which and inevitably get cut up and processed to be unrecognisable.

I've got a couple of those children's percussion kits which come in a backpack that you can never pack everything back in "for the kids" which have some fun bits and often buy "them" little musical presents; ocarina, melodica, marimba, one of those little Korg ribbon synths and a few drums. My eldest is 12 this year, might see if I can get a pass to buy him a volca unit haha
Meanwhile, I have a chord sequence! And I've spent too long already making some little sprinkles to add on top. On top of what? Dunno!

Personally, I'd keep an open mind on using a 'pooter to do midi sequencing at least, it just makes life so much easier. You can use a synth with keys or a controller keyboard/pads to create and play whilst having a midi sequencer on a screen will make replaying and editing much easier. And as its 80`s midi tech literally anything Atari ST520 or up will do the job.
So for two sound sources:
[Keys Synth] <=> [PC] - >[Rhythm]
Or
[Ctrl] - > [PC] - > [Rack Synth] - > [Rhythm]There are synths that will do melody and rhythms, I started with a controller keyboard, laptop and a Novation KS rack which was 4 part multitimbral (essentially could be used as 4 "instruments" at the same time) so Drums, Pad, Lead and Bass.

Yeah, they're pretty decent for the price, can take a guitar without needing to bump up the level and can drive a set of headphones loud enough to noodle on. Midi sync on the delay/trem is good stuff too. Just annoying having to refer to the manual for A: what the program number is, and B: what the two parameter knobs do as it changes between programs. Pick your 16 faves and save them into the user bank, makes things easier to remember.
Its unbalanced though (#MetaphorForMyLife) but then everything I have is and the noise floor is fine for what I do. -

Back in 2001-ish I landed a job doing live sound to video and studio sessions at a local venue. Digital 8 track or 16 track tape, basic outboard and a mackie 32/8 desk. Since around then I've been carting this lot around from house to house and not really touched it during fatherhood. I got it all plugged in again for lockdown and whilst my little one doesn't give me much time, I've been tinkering about again. Win XP running Logic 4.6 as a midi sequencer and audio manipulation before re-sampling etc.
I put together an 11 track CD back then which I put on soundcloud a little while later https://m.soundcloud.com/toisletandback/tracks
And did a single, solo, live gig which was the scariest thing I've ever done. It's mostly ambient and drones, obsessed with loops, Loren Conors, Savath & Savalas first EP etc...it's a bit childish and cringe now. Don't know if anyone else here is into making that kind of thing? I can waste hours just continuously manipulating a loop. -
