Yesterday I rode a serious track uphill to woodland trails then roads and roadhills home. About 55km. I can push on, really squeeze out the last dregs of effort towards the top of a hill or when scooping out of a bombhole or chasing that last km home. At those points I feel the same as I did as a fit man at 40. That's where the comparison ends. Arriving home I ease a leg off the saddle (thank the Lord for dropper posts because they were made for this moment), struggle to reach for keys in my back pockets, open the front door and crash on the bottom stair. Wife sends me to the shower, I resist crashing on the bed, grab water and 2 paracetamol and hit the sofa. Saturday afternoon rides leave me knackered. But a couple of painkillers knock the edge off, 2 cold beers help too. Bloody love it! Hope I never stop

A quiet thread this.perhaps it reflects the pace of life over 60. Surely not! Because for the last few sunny weeks I've ridden my weary arse off in Gloucestershire and could be as fit as I've been since pre 50. I'm picking off the hills around Cheltenham and Gloucester and stretching out over the commons and woodlands. This is THE year for cycling if ever there was one. I ran maybe the first (not sure I'm new here) pop up Bike Check Point here last week, made it onto local BBC Radio and had a queue all day of mum's, dad's, kids wanting tyres blown up and clicky gears tuned. Life is good.....

Just tidied up this Polar Markenrad, split frame, 20" wheel, single speed, back-pedal brake runaround. I can't date it or find history on the interweb. It's remarkable for 3 reasons:
The components are high quality but then it is German
No seatstay. The rack forms a rigid rear parallelogram.
That beautiful chainguard. Art deco on a bicycle.
Anyone got any background on this make/model?
Cheers Mel
Any idea of date of this bike?
