Sturdy and cheap(ish) but heavy as hell. Unless you're using a Campag gruppo (which is hardly good in the weight v. money stakes) there are better options out there. Shimano R501s are the same weight and 78 quid a pair from Merlin.

Just a pair of forks held upright and upside down should work. Attach one wheel to each side using the QR, and job done. Hmmm, I wonder if those cheap steel forks are still going for 6 quid a go on eBay...

The one that came with the pot was of course shite. So I took a paint brush I had, and chopped the end of the bristles off to stiffen them. Kinda works. But there must be a better way.

Acid brushes, with bristles about 10mm across. Got a whole load of eBay for pennies.

Right, I finally got time to fit and have a (quick) test of my Riken power meter at the weekend. Nothing to report fitting it - it's a GXP crankset - and I used the bottom-bracket mounted magnet. It paired up with my Edge 800 perfectly, and calibration was also easy from the Garmin.

The data output seems sensible and in line with what I'd expect from my Powertap wheel. The last four minutes of Sunday's climb shows this:

Looks about right. The power drops off during the flat bit before the final ramp, as I start slacking, then heads up to where it previously was, and then ramps up as the end as I get on the pedals for the final ramp, before dawdling to a halt.

Can't say how waterproof/rain-resistant the Riken is. No doubt that will change in due course.

Bad things. It softens epoxy resin. I'll be sticking with old skool Acetone for carbon tubulars.

Acetone is old news. I've just had 5 litres of MEK delivered. Proper nasty stuff.
