Interesting post, this.
A Jewish bloke who is an acquaintance through cycling, rather than a close friend, and who I consider to be level-headed. He is clearly outraged - through what I have seen him post on socials - that there isn’t more western support for Israel (as a state). I’ll cite the Wembley arch FA decision as something he was livid about.
My inference - and some will probably tell you I’m wrong - is that he sees criticism of Israel as criticism of Jewish people. Which couldn’t be further from the truth, in any right-thinking hive mind.

I'm a reluctant Zipcar user because they're a bunch of chancing crooks. But in central London, it's handy.
I report the slightest thing wrong with each car I pick up just in case I need to have the conversation where I have to say "to be clear, you'll see from my pick-up report that it was like that already". And best case is that it often results in credit.
It's rude AF to leave a dirty car or empty fuel tank for the next person. Honestly, some people.

... flying. Again.
Is there anyone here with insight and/or inside knowledge?
Despite hating flying, I have flown a lot and I have never had so much as a rescheduled flight until two months ago.
In the past two months, we've had four flights cancelled. They have all been to or from LHR and STR: three with BA; one with Eurowings.
The first we had to completely cancel because the alternative BA offered was no good (we were notified 3hrs before take-off). The second and third (BA) we have rescheduled as they're for in a fortnight's time and then at Christmas. The final one was my brother-in-law's flight this morning (Eurowings), which he rescheduled to 2pm after being notified of the cancellation, again 3hrs before take-off.
Is there something going on? With commercial aviation staffing levels? At LHR? At STR?
Or are cancelled/rescheduled flights commonplace and I've just been extremely luck over the past 40years?

Interesting phone-in on 5 Live, this morning. Asking whether the FA is right to not light up the Wembley arch in the colours of Israel.
A few callers saying that when there were terror attacks on France, Belgium… the arch was lit up in their flag colours.
To me that misses half of the story. But I didn’t phone in.

I think my confusion comes from the fact that… Israel is not really under threat? It’s David and Goliath. It’s holding a midget at arm’s length and kicking them in the nuts as they land the odd punch to the thighs.
I’m not saying that condones or condemns either side’s actions; I just find it to be the opposite of what the “agreed” narrative is.
Unless I misunderstood your reply, in which case I’m sorry - it’s been a long, erm, year at work!
