And further train station meanderings. Does anyone remember when the buildings out the back of Farringdon station, sort of opposite Turnmills (RIP) were squatted and used to be used for big parties? Last one I went to was the day after Labour won in '97. How glorious life felt at that time, as one of Thatcher's children of the eighties, Labour had won, we didn't yet know what a cunt Blair would prove to be, and the sun was out. Ah. Beautiful memories. The party was great too, set in a sprawling collection of outbuildings and yards almost overlooking the late night (and early morning) travellers in the station. I think the place was called "Tardis".

Another, which is fun, is the disused Strand station, which was on a spur from the Picadilly coming off at Holborn. It is still in good nick, I have been down there (it was being used as an art gallery for someone's degree show or some such). Apparently the tube staff used to use it for their Christmas parties or some such.

He should have not included the Metro... bit though... that was the giveaway for me. There are loads of disused, renamed etc. stations around here, there were three called Holborn at one point: "Holborn", "Farrigndon and High Holborn" and "Holborn Viaduct". Knowing which line it was on pricked my memory.

Got one
OLD - Farringdon Station, or rather the shop units into which it has been converted: http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag123/andrewhorton/2013-01-03163535_zps7ebafafa.jpg

Was at Herne Hill on New Years Day. First trip for me.
While I was there and before my three year old starting picking fights I picked up a nice RX100 chainset from the jumble. I think it is going to look much nicer than the 2300 chainset.
Photos soon.
Oh by the way... what are the pros and cons of CX lever mounted across the top of the bars? I ride the tops a lot, it is better for my back, and so would not mind having some brakes there. Any problems with this?
-
Was a little slow over Christmas, which I am pleased about really, a little bit of time to think about what I want. Anyway, did get one evening to hang everything on the new frame. Cabled up the levers and took it out for a spin - it feels nice, but too early to say what it will feel like on a longer ride. Still some stuff to do:
- Post some photos
- Trim the brake cables to get the curves a little less 'flamboyant'
- Tape the cables to the bars and...
- Tape the bars - need to find out how to go around the bottom of the levers - not really sure how to do that
- Sort out the rear caliper - the drop is not quite long enough, a couple of mils short. I am going to try filing out the oval a little more to lower the blocks a little
- Post some photos

Hi there. I have a pair of Simano 4500s fitted, but the rear is too short - by about a millimetre. I have moved the blocks right down the slider, but it just won't reach. So, I was wondering if anyone had a R451, which is the long drop version, or something else Shimano so that I could keep it looking matchy matchy? Willing to collect and pay of course.
This is perfect, but the 'Bay has had enough of my money recently: Ebay link

I had to check that. Realised I was thinking of the entrance and exit at the back of the old High and I station, through which the bands get in and out of the Garage (is that the right name now?). But you got the front which I have not noticed before.
