The church do what they want - let them continue.
But any form of state sanctioned union that offers perks - such as tax breaks etc - is harmful to those not wishing to be state sanctioned surely?I'm not proposing banning people from getting married, I simply think that it should have no legal status. If anything, I'm extending the right to marriage by making it officially useless, and able to be decided by anyone at any time.
plus then my cats could get married. even though they are siblings!
You initially wrote that we should "Just remove it all. dissolve all current marriages too". Which seemed to suggest that you are banning it by removing it entirely.
But I agree with the principles. The solution is not to remove it, but to change it. Remove the bonuses such as tax breaks. Then, as you said, give it no legal status. Make it an institution by name only.
People should be allowed to get married but with no legal or financial benefit, only ascribing whatever romantic values they like.

Indeed, so why legislate for it. Just remove it all. dissolve all current marriages too. People can just decide if they are married or not.
Anything based on requesting permission from the state or treating other people as property has no place now.
Because there is a difference between facilitating a silly but unharmful choice and banning people from having the liberty to be silly.
If people want to have state-sanctioned lives. Then so be it. I don't think that relationships should have to formalised by establishments, but it's also not right to stop people formalising relationships by state/church/establishment if they want to.

Haha. Frame #Vince.
ps. Work on your censoring of your details.

Lets just ban all marriage and civil partnerships - arcane institutions with no place in society.
Deliberately ironic?
I personally agree that marriages and civil partnerships are pointless institutions, but banning them would infringe upon people's rights to be silly if they want to be.People getting any sort of marriage doesn't affect anyone else adversely.

Playing music from my backpack on my commute. No slaps yet.
Maybe everybody loves Phill Collins.
