Sheffield based I think.
YES! Many thanks everyone: just wish I'd checked back here sooner, having spent the last hour trawling through "bikes & bits"...
It was the 853 cross bike I particularly liked, reminded me of the old Porsche Martini team colours.

With an Olagnero frameset on its way to me I have been daydreaming of custom paint jobs.
A while back I stumbled on a new frame builder and was impressed by their paint: minimalist, uber-cool, asymmetric pinstripes etc etc.
Of course, I've forgotten who they were now: I know it's not a lot to go on, but can you suggest some names please.
Like I say, they're a new outfit (so not Argos, Atlantic Boulevard etc), they might have been "oop North" and might have had a blog rather than a website.
All suggestions gratefully received...

Campagnolo Record, not good compared with modern cranks but still worth money as collectors like them.
1st generation Chorus (1988 - 1991): Record have the fifth arm of the spider behind the crank arm (Athena are flat around the bolt dust cap, Chorus have a lip).
To say they're "not good" is too strong: obviously the alloys and designs have improved but these were top quality at the time.
£35 or so on Ebay; the graphite finish is rarer, so you'd be selling to a smaller market which may hold the price down if you don't have a complete groupset.

I'm in: I live a stone's throw from Christchurch Park, so I'll be arriving fashionably late!
I'll be rocking the yellow steeler, wearing Molteni but no helmet: old skool kool, right?
Coughed-up for the coach back, so I'll need to get a lick on if I'm going to hoist a few in Norwich...
Volunteered for marshalling duties at the start, so I'm on for TWO goody bags!

Plenty of bargains to be had here
, the guy has bought a job lot or something and is pretty clueless: bottom brackets listed as hubs, a cassette listed as "ring gear".
Downside is that he's not great at answering queries, even when he does reply it's not necessarily that helpful.

Fortunately it's too small for me, so I get to keep my kidneys. Tizi is an absolute hero for a steel lover like me, but £2k for f&f is ridiculous.
The worst thing is that anyone stupid enough to pay that price will be a prick who's only bought it because a "boutique" bike shop are charging silly money and have no appreciation of what it is.
Hey ho...

I'm using it as a 14speed atm, so would I be able to get away with 4mm chainline outage since I'm running gears?
Maybe, maybe not.I've got a frame with ovalised tubes, so I have to account for the fact that the braze-on tab is closer to the centreline than usual (with a narrower spindle), or the range of movement of the front mech isn't adequate and it's reluctant to shift onto the Big Dog and I get chain rub in first gear (on the little ring).
If you are running gears, then your starting point in choosing the right BB are your cranks: each set is designed to work with a particular width spindle.
Look them up on Velobase or check with the manufacturer to find out what width BB you need.

Here's what that nice Mr Brown has to say about BB tapers.
In short, it isn't ideal to mix ISO and JIS but it has been done without causing problems.
This is especially true if you use a cartridge BB (as the cranks aren't regularly removed for maintenance, which is when the damage can occur).
Your chainline will be altered by 4.5mm.
Have a look on the always useful (but not infallible) Velobase for your BB: it will tell you what size and how many bearings you need.

Some really nice flower pots there!
