Bump for this thread and another recommendation for Jon at Mack workshop. Sent me pics of the roll with different items in it (I wanted to use it on the bike with a couple of tubes in it but make sure it was also big enough to tuck things like a mini pump in to stick in a bag for commuting), ordered on Sunday afternoon and it was with me on Thursday.
Sound guy, decent bit of kit.

Haha yes I had a cheap shell that was instantly defeated by rain, which I assume this won't be. It is also far better made. My commute is so short I barely have time to get properly sweaty (and I guess I could just slow down) so I'll keep going with it.
So is the hardshell going to be different then? Copes with actual long rides without too much condensation and isn't for pulling in for a shower? Not thinking of buying, just curious

Hmmm... the reason I got this was because I was sick of riding while drenched which happened on a LOT of rides last year (Ride London and the Dun Run, the list goes on and on). Wanted something that I could pull on and could reliably keep me dry. Saw this on the Rapha ebay outlet store for £75 so went for it. Don't want to spend any more cash really.
So I just have to accept that I'll be wet with or without? There's no technique with layering or something? I am disappoint. Glad it didn't cost me £220!

here's a question for y'all. I own a rapha race cape, and it is certainly good at keeping out the wet. The only problem is it keeps in the wet too.
For example, today I was wearing it with a Torm LS jersey and bib tights, and strangely my forearms got noticeably wet. The rest of me was damp. My commute is only 7 miles and involves a fair bit of starting and stopping, which I know might affect things, plus I run hot anyway.
What do people wear under these things that can keep them relatively condensation free at a pretty high tempo? Or is that not the point, and it is better to accept warm and damp rather than soaked and cold?

I have found the race cape a bit sweaty for moderate to high tempo rides with a long sleeve merino jersey underneath in the current temperature. It feels like my body can't decide if it is hot or cold. I've decided to keep it as a rain / descending / posing jacket, which I guess is it's proper purpose... :)
It is last year's model which I got on discount though, don't know if that makes a difference.

Was looking at that yellow disc Equilibrium today, was nice! Have you thought about the CDF frameset? A bit more interesting looking than the above, but marginally heavier: http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/adventure/frames/croix-de-fer-frameset

Don't worry about that - when I got mine home from the shop I thought "oh shit" and emailed Genesis - this was their reply:
Well spotted! You can rest assured it's a design feature and provides a little bit of clearance for the chain when in the lower sprocket (hence why there's an indentation on the driveside and not on the non-driveside)
Fun project, will be interested to see how it turns out.

I've found the bike for me. Fully custom, big headtube, rad steel and not too pricey. Done

Walz caps are the only type that fit my massive dome comfortably. Nice and not too pricey. The peak can flick down as it is soft though - only a problem when the wind gets up.
