i was thinking on a ride that we should start a saddle pool.
i've got a few that i could throw in. it would allow people to test the out for a limited time (to stop people just sitting [lolz] on them and not testing) without having to buy/ sell and lose money.
thoughts?Yeah that sounds good to me (not that I've been on an lfg ride). I'm sure there's more than enough to go around.

There are as many opinions on saddles as there are bums, pretty much.
You haven't even told us what your current saddle is!
fwiw I reckon almost everyone could do with a Rolls. Try one. You can always sell it on.
Carbon SLR or TT saddle.
I like the look of the black Rolls saddle! I'll be looking to give that a try.
I couldn't tell you what saddle mine is if I tried.. just a box standard road bike saddle that the guy stuck on when he took his off to sell me it.

That pearson doesn't look too bad at all.. i'll definitely take him to go check one of those out.
Think its 56 for the frame size so best to go look at that this week some time before considering anything else..
Is Pearson a reputable brand then seen as they go on about their 150 years of experience on their site? I've seen a few vintage Pearsons but didn't think much of it at the time.

Your best way to find out what saddle you need is to sit your bare ass on a piece of cardboard, then get a piece of chalk and cover the whole cardboard, where you bones have pushed the cardboard down, measure the width of it.
Once you've found this, possibly purchase a few 2nd hand saddles which measure upto this sizing and just test one after another until you've found the perfect saddle.
Also remember saddle height, angle and layback (can't remember the proper term) all pay a major factor into getting a comfortable ride.
Ah I wasn't aware there was an actual method. I'll have to get testing other saddles then. I'm hoping it makes a massive difference though as it really does get unbearable! Thanks

I've tried to persuade him to go vintage for cost and aesthetics but I think he was just weighing his options seen as he just asked me about BLB frames...
We're supposed to be doing London to Paris fixed this time next year so what sort of frame would you recommend for that (without going into the £1000's)?

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of these frames or any idea of what sort of quality they are.
Reflective of the cheap price?

This custom made bamboo bike was built over the past few months from a vintage 70's Azuki Japanese bike frame that was tenderly dismantled and the metal replaced with bamboo, high strength hemp chord was used for the joints with high strength epoxy. This isn't just atheistic, the frame is actually constructed with hand selected, oven tempered bamboo, only the joints contain original bike metal.
If someone chooses to buy a bike made of bamboo and in this condition then they deserves everything they're going to get!

Thankfully only one of these is available.. + can be yours for the best part of a grand.

Recently started going for some longer distances on fixed rather than just the London commute. After 40 miles yesterday my legs could keep going but my saddle was doing a number on me.. with padded shorts on
Anyone riding distances on a reasonably priced saddle they would recommend?
My ride is nothing overly special just one of the higher end early 70's pugs.

Shame about the rear brake? What, from an aesthetics point of view?! That's funny.
Yep, it spins, indented seat tube as so...

Tighter clearance on the chainstays than the seat tube. I'm using the ACS Claw freewheel, much better than the shimano jobby I have on my SS 29er for the same price and makes a great noise.
Ha yes! Purely aesthetics.. but light heartedly and not meant in 'breakless is the only way' douche-baggery. I just find riding with a front break and tightly cut cable to be personally sufficient.
Nice tight clearance though, had us all fooled.

I am taking my first long distance pilgrimage in the not too distant future from London to Paris via Dieppe on the Hirsch route.
Three of us are riding FG having ridden around London for maybe 2 years with our longest ride being 28 miles.
Given I don't really know the landscape.. is it plausible to get to the ferry in a day and do the Dieppe to Paris route in 2 days alone for very inexperienced cyclists?
None of us are overly fit or any more active than commuting through London daily.

I just transported my bike to London and after a couple of days of dodging traffic my back wheel is starting to rattle more and more. The wheel itself is firmly on. There is no sideways motion and it rides true yet it sounds as though it is loose. Any suggestions?
The wheel is only a month and I haven't removed it since first putting it on though I changed the inner a week ago.

XL or L.. 58-60..
Or any idea where the best place to pick one up used would be?
