It looks just like that one in the link. Having looked at the lugs and the position of the pump it is near enough identical. So it’s a no1 model.

sure, I've just clocked off for the day so I'm going to get all the junk off it and give it a clean up. the number on the BB isn't very clear but looks to be LE 598, from what I can tell that puts it at around 1953

bit of a crass question but what sort of value would be on this frame? I know a bloke who collects old English road bikes and rang him up about it, his first question was how much I was looking for on it and I was a little stumped on a price

Awesome! This was a bit of a punt that paid off. Came as a lot of three old knackered bikes, two were just junk but this stood out.

Wow good shout! I’ve just been looking over les ephgrave frames and there are a lot of similarities. The rear drop outs are exactly the same as an ephgrave on Hilary stones website, so I think you may have nailed it in one. Thanks!

Just bought this bike, the frame looks potentially like something interesting, it has chater lea pedals and cranks, gb brakes, harden large flange hub on the front, unfortunately the rear was just something plain and newer.

The frame has LE98 stamped on the BB shell. The lugs are fairly ornate and the dropouts are unusual. BB shell has an oil port.

Anyone have any clue what this might be?

Try taking the lock nut off and taking the arms apart, give them a clean, grease the pivot points and put back together.

If you don’t want to take apart put some spray lube in the pivot point and work it a bit.

Also try undo the bolt holding it to the frame hold the brake hard against the rim and then do up again to try relocating it. That can often work. In fact try that first then try cleaning it up. It might just be fitted a bit too much to one side of the rim.

Are you finding that you pull the brake in and only one arm moves leaving one close to the rim?

It’s not going to do anything other than be difficult to get out. It won’t have weakened it in anyway. If anything it will be stronger.

If it’s only just stuck you may have an easier time of getting it out though. Things like feeding it with penetrating fluid and heat don’t often work but if it’s at the point if only just recently become stuck, you will likely get it out much easier.

Drill a hole about 4mm or so in the lock ring and stop before it breaks through to the other side then give it a wallop with a hammer and punch. That should break it and pretty much just fall off without damaging anything else.

I would try a slide hammer on carbon. Like the bloke in that YouTube video. Or perhaps clamping in a vice

Got a stuck BB and I don’t have a good enough tool.

Can anyone recommend something substantial to get this bar steward out? I’m struggling to find anything

I have tried a pin spanner but it just bent.

If no tool can do it I’ll either make a tool, grind flats to it or cut it out or weld a long bit of bar to it.

Failing that I’ll take it to a shop as an absolute last resort.

Ring spanner on the nut to undo and pull the calliper. You may get away with just a new nut and the bolt thread be ok.

Nice. So you have to put a blob of glue down and place each one? Must take ages. And presumably you paint in the gaps?

google says permanently closed and their phone line is dead but don't know if its just a virus thing.
