I think you are just unlucky.. I already have a Primato hub on my commuter for 3 years or so. No problems whatsoever and still very smooth..

I'm thinking about putting gears back on this bike and use it for touring:

I wanna use some 7 speed downtube shifters I have, does anyone know where to buy a nice adapter for this shifters? The downtube diameter is around 32mm. I'm not sure if this will fit: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/origin8-down-tube-shift-adapter-286-318mm-prod31401/. Does someone know another option?

230-186= the stack height you need, it's not that hard. If you buy a headset that has a little less stack height you can cut your forks a little or use a spacer.
