Just bought a 6870 RD off ebay. When connecting to the rest of the system it makes a clicking noise, and doesnt react to shifting. It showed up in e-tube once but not again. It showed latest firmware on it. Rest of the group confirmed working, and all compatible (6870 fd, 8050 shifters).

(Disclaimer: Ive got TRP spyres on my gravel biek, just because I already had cable shifters. Perfectly happy with their performance. I was even slightly disappointed riding my friend's bike with force hydros. Also your reasoning makes complete sense.)

Thats fair, but then it isnt about the lever shape. I havent seen any other cable brakes on the last 3 pages (besides the crux). But im also curious whats the reason on a spendy bike...

This is something you usually think of once you have the fully disassembled front brake in front of you. :D

Mostly yes, with the exception of sprint shifters. They are "dumb" as in they are simply a momentary switch that closes a circuit. You can plug them in anywhere, but they will only work on the sprint port of some shifters. Climbing shifters will be fine though!

I do everything on all my bikes. Always rather buy the tool and do the job myself...etc.
BUT, this is a skill that I dont think I'd use very often, and given how critical it is, I'd rather not have a crack at it. Thanks for the tip on Condor!
