yeah, mine isn't much of a tourer at the moment really. It's pretty much all 105; wheels, mechs, cranks, brake levers... ultegra shifters and alhonga deep drop brakes. I'm switching to some SPD pedals and shoes some time next week (first time trying them out). My friend suggested a B20 over a B17, saying it's more comfy over a longer distance, but I have yet to splash out for a brooks saddle.

As it says in the title; most of my bikes are twice my age, I was thinking of making something a little more current, try out some newer bikes etc. I'm looking to have a threadless headset on this one, and I DO want a drilled fork as I value my life. GB threaded bb would be nice, then I can use some parts I already have.

yeah got some pedals off here for £15 so £20 wouldn't put me too far over budget. Do you know what those shoes are like to walk in? Thanks a lot for the help, I really haven't a clue about these shoes. I'm going to try them out on a geared bike first, i'll only use them on a fixie if I feel confident in them.

Have been offered some alhonga ones via PM, but they get somewhat mixed reviews online....will try to make up my mind by the weekend...
I've got them on my new build and they're great, long enough to reach 700c wheels on my 27'' frame. I've not noticed any lack of stopping power myself; then again I've only been riding with them for about a week.

Basically I want to try out a clipless system, but I don't want to spend too much. I've seen used shoes and pedals go on here quite cheaply, so I'm hoping to spend less than £30 including postage to cambridge. I'm not too sure what I'm looking for, but I would want the shoes to be ok for walking around normally.
Cheers. -

Seems a bit bright but it should dull down a little and it'll be good. Mudguards, rack and panniers and I'll be set!

I've got some miche performance ones that go to 57mm, they're pretty good if you're sure they're long enough. I could post them for £17 (they're brand new w/ pads).
Alhongas have been working fine for me on my dawes galaxy, they are seriously long though and don't quick release for taking the wheel off.

I think it looks nicer too. There are very few good looking bamboo bike home builds from what i've seen. As sustainable as it might be I hate the hemp twine joints that everyone seems to use on the bamboo joints. Looks like a kids design technology project. There are some lovely carbon jointed frames though.
I thought about a bamboo bike myself and did plenty of research before I decided on this one but using hardwood is a hell of a lot more labour intensive as it takes a long time laminating and shaping the frame by hand where as with the bamboo the tubes are already formed for you.
I can understand the sort of workload it would be, I'm halfway through building a guitar and that's using much softer woods. I was putting it off til next year when I finish sixth form to begin building a frame, but i'm glad I did as I think this will be my number one choice if I do!

Took it for a 13 mile spin; goes beautifully! Need to redo a little bit of the cabling and buy some tape and it will be sorted. I've actually found some tape the same yellow as the seat; i'm getting mixed signals on whether it would be disgusting or nice, but I think I'll go for it for now? I'll post a pic with tape once it is done

mine aren't nut fit, but it's a simple job to drill the frameset. not too bothered, as you will
