I think the first 40 minutes of the ride is going to be carnage, lots of people unused to riding in groups and worried about over doing it will be wobbling all over the road. I'd quite like to find a group of 5 or more and try for an average speed of c.16-18mph.
Hopefully will be able to manage it. The thought of some idiot wiping me out as ^ is a problem.....

So my friend who I was going to ride the route with has pulled out due to a dodgy knee and not wanting to make it worse before our cycling trip to France.
I'm not particularly keen to do the whole route on my own, is there anyone who would like some company for the ride? My start time is 7:10, I'll probably be riding around 14 mph average and I'm happy to provide homemade flapjacks.
Doc, i'm leaving at 6:54, 14mph sounds like the average speed we'll be doing too, will be on a red Focus and sporting a Bone Cancer Research Jersey, like a big blue and red telly tubby. If you want to join, you're more than welcome.

I'd like to cycle the route, just to check it out. Maybe this weekend.
Silly question maybe, but I'm guessing helmets are compulsory? I haven't been keeping up-to-date with the emails.
Sounds good, I'm happy to do Sunday morning if that suits? Probably skip out all of the London rubbish and just hit the trail from the Richmond area?
Helmets are compulsory due to the organisers insurance.

Your arrival time at QEOP: 05:42
Your personal load time is: 06:06
Your Personal start time: 06:42Damn.
If anyone is up for some last-minute training over the next ten days, shoot me a message and we can arrange something.
Hi Chris,
I'm off at the same time and in need of some pretty serious training. What are you thinking?

Sorry to hear about the loss.
I have a Ride100 place but can no longer make the event. I have called the organisers and they have said that I can't transfer my place to someone else. The only option is to defer my place to next year and pay a deferral fee. What a load of codswallop.
If someone can figure out a way round this or has any contacts, then you are welcome to my place for free - jersey included!
Can someone else ride as you or is there an ID stage? Have a buddy who is keen for a place....

Jazzy, Really sorry to hear about your Dad.
I'm doing a 100k sportif this Sunday from Dulwich and around a very similar course before coming back to Herne Hill. My training has been very haphazard and only went for my first decent run last weekend. I figure to start slow and get comfy and hope to get through it without too many errors. Will report back and let you know how it goes but i think that if you are getting some training in and doing some regular hilly stuff you will be absolutely fine. Around for training rides in London if you make it back up at any point.
Simon

Did a very boring route of Regents Park laps and then a few laps of Swains Lane in Highgate to fake some hills. Irritatingly have got some kind of chest infection which is making it all a bit difficult. Hope the family is ok. I have recruited some other people from the charity I'm cycling for so should be able to get 5 or 6 people next weekend.

Jazzy, I'm going to be a bit ahead but not going fast, only problem is all of the people. If I'm right, there will be c. 650 people per 4 minute wave so that puts about 2600 people between my group and yours.....but I will be in a small group of 3 guys, all wearing Bone Cancer Research jerseys (Light Blue). Certainly not out to break any records pace wise, would be great if you and Doctor Cake can catch up.....
