I blame @edmundro and his posts above for reigniting a minor obsession with old Karrimor backpacks. Always really liked the build quality and the simple designs, the Hots in particular.
It started with a late-80s 40L Hot Earth in all-black with orange bits which was a fabulous pack. No idea what happened to that but I have a Bobcat 65 grabbed for cheap in the company sell-off in the early 2000s which is a decent load lugger. Then there's a useful purple/green 30L Wild Crag from 1993 which has been my hiking daysack for yonks.
Rather regret chopping the waist strap off it though so last week I decided to hit eBay and lucked onto a 1990 Hot Ice exactly like Ed's partner's. It's got the rubber base and the waist strap with the KQR belt buckle... such a great design. The KS100t fabric is almost as good as new but the green sides are lesser stuff and some of the waterproofing is a touch iffy inside... generally use a liner anyway, so it's no biggie. Overall very pleased.
Wild Crag left, Hot Ice right

Did you know that particular seller routs and bevels guards at really quite a nice price if you send him the old one as a template? You can easily ask him to leave out a couple of pickup holes. In my limited experience, trying for a properly neat job at home with fretsaw, files and sandpaper is low on fun.

Poly finish repairs can be a bit of a 'mare I have heard... any chance of a pic of the damage?
You'll know all about devaluation from resprays already I'm sure and Squier JV's are no exception... values are up and the hit from a refin would likely be 2x or even 3x the price of the new paint job. It might sound a bit nutty but you could consider rebodying the guitar... a nice lightweight repro body in a cool nitro finish might cost less than a refin and drop in value combined, plus you could get most of your money back out of it at any time. Just a thought, mind.
Waaaay late on this one but I really, really like that SBGX063.
Quite agree on the superior balance of the OG logo placement too.
