So, I have an interesting set of steel frame bikes. I have an old Rossin from 97 or so, that I refurbed with a set of 2011 Athena; when I fit the brakes I found the 'sleeve' from the athena skeleton brakes didn't fit the holes drilled front and back - but the thread was the same as on the original Shimano Tiagras, so I swapped the sleeves over, and all was good - 1997 sleeve on 2011 brake, no drilling required.
I now find myself with another old steel frame bike that I want to put brakes on (I know, I'm a sinful sinner of sinfest. If it makes it any better it is being run flip flop fixed/SS) - but now all I have are sleeves that are too fat for the holes.
Any idea where I might be able to obtain some 'slim' sleeves like those from the 1997 tiagra that should fit the old holes? I'd rather not drill the frame out for bigger holes unless absolutely necessary.
Cheers,
Matt

I'm being sent slowly crazy. Bike is ticking when clean. Nice and silent when its very dirty. Argh.
Doesnt tick when I turn the cranks on a bike stand. Doesnt always tick when I stand on them, or pedal lightly. Seems to happen regardless of gear.
Tick... ticktick...
Im going to go boom.
Campagnolo Athena Power torque chainset on an old steel rossin frame. ticktick.

I'll tell you what, a friendly beer share and advice for noobs would be something I would have been interested in. Or probably still interested in, even with a payment for time - I built up my own bikes (2 of them now, so not a huge number), and I still have a niggling 'Fuck, what if I got something wrong?' feeling when Im going down something fast and bumpy.
Hasnt clown car'd on me yet, mind.
But yeah - friendly 'Let me teach you to help yourself' would be great. You could probably sell some tools and stuff to folks who didnt already have them too.

Please help me.
I already have a nice steel road bike, a nice steel single speed, and a horrible aluminium hybrid pub bike.
I really dont need another one.
My firm just offered me the cyclescheme thingy which means up to 1 grand on a bike costing me 400 quid from my pay packet.
Over the course of a year.
A) Please tell me I dont need another bike
B) Please definitely dont make loads of suggestions about exactly what kind of bike I should look at, with links to delicious looking pictures, and tales of your derring do and fun on such beasts, and ...oh god.

I havent had cause to change the cranks since fixing them, so no real reason to think its rubbish. The complaints were primarily that it required a gear puller & 30 quid campag insert to remove the arms. I guess the question is whether 45 quid in tools, or a trip to the bike shop every time you need to regrease the cups bothers you.
The bike is lightly used - about 8 miles a day during the week, and then the occasional weekend jaunt - but I havent had any problems with the cranks.

Something nice but not too blingy ;-p Want to ride nice, but be able to lock up outside pub.
HUB: 120-126mm rear spacing, free/fixed, for winter rides.
Totally willing to go for built up too, so...
RIM: Probably want 32 holes for my lardy ass. Def. want braking surfaces.
Prefer clinchers to tubs. Prefer black/silver to anything else, but not mandatory.
OMGMORE: Willing to consider full wheelset if you have one you need to get rid of, but only really need rear.
TRADEZ!: Also have 9 speed tiagra groupset (ex. bb/brakes, inc. everything else) inc. open pro front/rear if you feel the need to trade.
Ta much.
