Armourtex can't do it, as it's too big for their tanks (their tanks are built for bikes - so pretty large length by depth, but very narrow - about 130mm as you'd imagine) so trying to find somewhere that does bigger stuff, but strangely the information that the professionals have is wierdly inconsistent
Some say you have to dunk it, because shot blast will ruin alu, some say shot blasting it is fine, and some say that you can't strip powder coat of alu at all. Very odd.
kirkov - this is another bit of info someone gave me on the phone today, said in recent years nitromors has lost its touch because of regulations. he reckoned with old nitromors the powder coat literally fell off!
don't know where any of this leaves me though!

Various threads about doing this as a home job, but I've tried and failed at that and am looking for a commercial solution. I'm stripping a rack which is around 40 x 50 cm and maybe 30cm deep
I'm stripping alluminium, so most places won't shot-blast it, in case they ruin it. Armortex's chemical dipping tank isn't big enough (it's obviously massive - for frames, but its really narrow, basically the width of a rear-dropout).
Anyone ever had anything stripped somewhere else? Can't find anywhere that will do it...
Thanks in advance..

I used nitromors, the sort of liquid stuff though, not the mousse.
I've started looking for places that do it commercially now, I spent half a day fannying around with rubber gloves on and barely shifted anything, so I may cut my losses. The wire wool was a bit shit, but it definitely felt like it wasn't going anywhere even if I'd had some better abrasives...

15kg apparently. You are by no means the first to express concerns about it though, just google 'Copenhagen parts Porter'. It's quite the controversial piece of design work it seems.
There are struts going to the axel eyelets available, if I ever decide to carry real weight, but to be honest, I bought it because I think it's beautiful!

There are a couple of old threads on this, but they seems to be about specific jobs, as opposed to ongoing stickys so thought it would be appropriate to start a fresh one for my question...
I've just acquired one of these in black powdercoated finish from Bernard. what a gent.
http://copenhagenparts.com/products/bike-porter
but I really want it in the polished aluminum finish. Was thinking of Nitromors, but then everywhere I turn people are telling me how difficult it is to use, how horrible the process is, and so forth.
Anyone got any pointers? obviously gloves, goggles, ventilation blah blah blah. I don't think I'll be able to wrap it in cling film given its size and shape, so will probably just do several thin coats and have at it with the wire wool.
This is a powder coat done by the manufacturer themselves, not aftermarket, so is likely toughish to remove, I wonder if anyone has any speculations on what may lie beneath? It might be quite rough, I guess, in which case aluminum polishing tips are very welcome too...
Finally, the dumbest question of all time, but Aluminum doesn't corrode, right? I always thought not, but then in researching this I've seen info about aluminum being treated with anti-corrosion stuff and so forth...
thanks in advance...

Just read through a lot of this as I'm thinking of getting a powdercoat.
Is Armortex the only place in London or is their popularity simply due to a willingness to deal with bike frames in a detailed way?
I haven't seen much talk of any other powdercoaters so just wondering.
I'm getting the impression that a powdercoat and clear lacquer on top is about 75 quid right? but perhaps less in black?
Also - wondering if there's anyone on here who's ever got a powdercoat done in Norwich, I am there once a month or so to see the old dear, so I've tried to get a couple of quotes on the way, but wondering if anyone has experience of anywhere. Seems like you'd more likely find places that have no knowledge of coating bikes, but will happily stick a steel frame in with some steel girders and stuff for a few bob...

thread dredge.
Don't bother with this crap anymore, nitromors doesn't do anyhting to a decent powdercoat, i'm told it's because of new regulations and such leading to a change of recipe.
