As I'm expecting 8 teams total now, I'd suggest we play the tournament straight away as the courts don't get busy until the afternoon. Then we won't have lots of competition for the space and can have friendly throw-ins later on.
I think double elimination is best as that means 15 tournament games total, single elim would be 7 games and round robin would be 28 games.
Then if we play 10 minute timed games the actual tournament bit will last 3 to 4 hours, including stoppages and time between games.
What does everyone think to that?

As for teams, me and luke are happy to play in a team together as the 2 with the least tourny experience. not a b team, or a c team but way down as an 'S team'... a 'Smoking Nuns' team (we're blue skying it..)
βAt the top of the mountain, we are all snow leopards.β β Hunter S. Thompson
We should easily be able to get two Newcastle teams sorted. So far there is only Oliver, Me and Ed (if he makes it back from London) as The Smoking Nuns.
Then surely we've got another team in John, Matt and Steve, who said he is working a night shift the night before but is still coming and playing polo...commitment! :D

Hi Manchester, we're having a little one day Newcastle v Glasgow v Edinburgh tournament in a couple of weeks. Do any of you fancy coming up to make it a northern four-way?
Details here: http://www.facebook.com/events/318202554903467/
Let me know if you can make it :)

Hi, we're having a Newcastle v Glasgow v Edinburgh tournament in a couple of weeks if you want to come up for that: http://www.facebook.com/events/318202554903467/
Also, if you're struggling to find enough players in Middlesborough, maybe a few of us from the toon could pop down for a knockabout with you sometime.
I find the best way to get new players is to just play in a public place and ask anyone who stops to watch or rides past on a bike if they wanna join the team. :)

Here is a Facebook event for the tournament: http://www.facebook.com/events/318202554903467/
Anyone who uses it can "invite friends" to come watch. I've invited Glasgow and Edinburgh Bike Polo too.
Also, attached is the poster I made to advertise regular polo sessions. If Steve can print it we can save effort by putting it up at the same time we go round with posters for the tournament.

A3 colour posters and a gazebo. It's looking good.
Yes John, double elimination would mean more games than single, but with 4-6 teams we should just play round robin (everyone plays everyone league format) + playoffs at the end if you want some proper "cup final" excitement.
Good practice today Beaky, call me if you've got any free time through the week for another knockerbooot.

As for a "warm-up court", here are directions to the one outside Molineux Court: http://g.co/maps/4tzkd - it is 5 minutes away from The Polo Direct Arena by bike. It's too small for matches but very good for shooting practice. Can't think of anywhere better close by, although we probably won't need one if it's just Edinburgh and Glasgow coming.
Hi Rob, Smoking Nuns will be there. Hopefully another Newcastle team aswell...@John/Nigel/Steve?
Perhaps this could be the start of a Northern Summer League if Edinburgh, Glasgow, Sheffield and us are all up for hosting one in the next few months? Then we could have points for each round and an overall Champion of Shit(ie) Polo!
