This evening cycling towards Earlsfield station I saw a couple of lads 12-14 riding a scooter - the passenger had no helmet, the lad steering, was no more than 14, the thing had no lights and had pedals which where spinning like crazy. I pulled up beside them at some traffic lights and said in a concerned but friendly way that they would get pinched if the police stopped them. They both piped up that they had been stopped already and the police said it was OK, I told them not to be silly, they turned of Garret Lane and I went on my way. It was a bit of a bizarre moment, getting more odd the more I think about it.

Well done Aus - their best team for years. Troy Cooley must get a lot of credit for that bowling attack. and DL has helped immensely. We need to work out a few places now, opener, no3, keeper and a spinner and plan for at least two new fast bowlers one now ( I am really beginning to wonder who's cat Finn has shagged) and one ready in two years time.

Got a really close pass going down St Johns Hill close to Clapham Junction last night, from a big new beemer. Caught up with him and proved that I was spooked by not being very eloquent, himself and his female passenger looked guilty and shocked. Took a long time for me to calm down, I really felt like he'd not given a fuck and was just showing off. WAC.

Well done to Aus for winning that test - they played well and we were far from our best or even more like it not that competitive. In order to turn things around the players and support team will really need to show some real fortitude not just bluster and bluff.
The way the press is handling and setting the tone and I am not just talking from one side or the other, really bothers me, justifying shitty behaviour from both sides will have a trickle down impact.at club and junior levels. I am all for wanting to win and use of a sharp comment here or there on the field, but seeing and hearing the sort of blunt shite and reacting with said same (rather than ignore and store) is unedifying at best. Having played a lot I worked out that the gobshites were generally not that good and when they got a bit back did not like it - but the silent bristling types who were good, well they had to be treated with respect,
For what its worth I think Finn for Tremlett and bringing Ballance in would help things along and playing a truly positive game, with contributions from all and rather less posturing would help

Spot on about the late declaration, another 50 odd runs wont make a blind bit of difference - Smith had his ton anyway.
The key difference between these sides is the ability to spot and exploit the key moments in matches, England have it. The late Australian declaration this evening is an example of a missed opportunity - irrespective of if it worked or not, it would have shown confidence and control.
Forecast for Saturday is not too clever either.

Thanks!
I was going to bite - but decided not to either.
However.....
The track at The Oval is decidedly British and is not, as far as I can ever remember, conducive to spinners at both ends in the first session of the first innings of a test match. At least not for English spinners (have we ever had two decent spinners at the same time?)
It certainly didn't appear to be today either.
We have produced decent pairs of spinners but tend not to pick them at the same time
Panesar/Swann
Edmonds/EmbureyBut your point about the pitch is accurate.
Well that looks like a mystery solved - scooby snack for mdcc
