This sounds a lot like my weird rhythmic click/clunk:

• only happens when pedalling
  
• random and intermittent
  
• regreased seat post, no effect, plus it happens while in or out of saddle
  
• brand new freewheel installed last month
  
• chain is straight and not over extended
  
• happens regardless of which side I pedal with, so not the cranks pedals or cleats
  
  

I'm now thinking bb is all that's left to check, but I don't have a crank puller.
