RIP Dan. This is so tragic, so upsetting. Such a waste of life, so unnecessary, and it is so frustrating to know that these accidents will keep happening as long as planners create such dangerous spaces in the city. To that extent it's a political issue. If this summer really is a turning point for cycling in the UK, then it should also be the summer when the public at large realise this and say no more.

Just bought these off ebay for £51. Here is the description:
As you can see from the picture, these shoes have hardly been worn: I bought them, changed my bike a month later and the new bike came with smaller cleats/SPD's so these Scotts have not been used. If I wore 5 times I'd be surprised, so, there are no marks, no smells, etc, etc.
These were about £140, from memory, so with no reserve someone could get a bargain. Here is the auction:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120955602112?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649I have received the shoes today and I think the description is spot on.
I am selling immediately because, to be honest, I wasn't actually sure if I wanted to get road shoes and cleats when I bid. I have SPDs but they are not as stable as I like, and I have a bit of a bad knee. So over the weekend I decided go back the other way, and have picked up some old-fashioned leather cycling shoes to use with straps and cages.
£50 if you want them, collection preferred but will post for £5. I am based in east London but can meet somewhere handy.

the exmouth-exeter train is clearly a branch line. it'll likely be a small, old train that you can just hold your bike on.
also the staff will probably be local and fairly chilled out.
so i'd say it'll be no problem at all, or at least nothing more than a 'dont do it again'
still debating with myself on doing this.

Cav was fully supported in the Giro by Sky, who didn't have anyone going for pink, and he would have taken the red jersey if he hadn't been unlucky with a couple of crashes. He was one point off. There are more races in a year than the Tour and this year, he's targeted two things he doesn't have, a red jersey and a gold medal.
So in fact it's just a load of bollocks to suggest that Sky don't/can't support him just because they aren't going for green in this tour.

I'm fully willing to believe that Wiggins and Sky are clean. I think they've got a great strategy so far, they've trained perfectly and they have shitloads of money behind them, which in most sports will give more than marginal gains.
equally, this is pro cycling we're talking about, ruled for years by vampires and pharmacologists. pessimists are never disappointed!

I climbed mont ventoux two weeks ago with a friend, where we encountered a bunch of very wealthy 40-something americans struggling up on shiny rental madones followed by a fully stocked air conditioned minibus/support crew from a company called 'Trek Tours', which regularly supplied them with drinks and gels before whisking them back to the chateaux for cheese and wine. the yellow bracelets were everywhere. these people have no idea.
for me, personally, contemporary pro cycling was always a joke during the tour de lance years. i've only been able to believe in it recently, i think for the first time in my own lifetime really. this is a good thing. the man is a disgrace. no one who wanted to race clean even had a chance against him and he did it all with an eye on building a business empire. there aren't many public figures outside politics who i actively hate but he is number one.
i just cannot see how it could possibly be damaging for the sport to finally bust the bastard.

An application for JR of the CPS decision might be feasible but would need to be brought as promptly as possible, and in any event within 3 months of the decision.
A person or body would need to have sufficient interest in the case to bring the application - it could be a cycle campaign group, for example. Standing would be arguable given the strong public interest. Or a member of Dan's family, if they wanted to, might be able to apply on his behalf; in which case they might be eligible for legal aid to help fund it.
Bringing a JR of a CPS decision not to prosecute is very difficult. There is a wide discretion afforded the CPS, for obvious reasons, and as such there would be a high risk of having to pay the CPS's costs in defending the case. There might be enough interest to get the application costs done on a pro bono basis if legal aid isn't an option. I would be interested in helping. But paying CPS costs would always be a big risk.
At the very least forcing the CPS to defend the decision might lead to more clarity on how they are making these decisions.
Sorry for diverting the thread.
RIP Dan.
