So the man is 77 - so what? He would also be allowed to drive a motor vehicle. The man went into the back of the car - could be true, as when she was starting off her speed would have been slow, doesn't make this the cyclist's fault. And the sun was bright!!! She should have been driving according to the weather conditions - it the roads are wet then reduce speed, if visibility is limited than wait until you are 100% certain that a change in direction will not affect another road user, and maybe consider visual aids (in this case sunglasses).
As for leaving the scene, this is an offence but the police will not prosecute as she went back. Unfortunately her attitude is shit - it just screams 'my life is more important than your life'.
Would be interesting to join mumsnet, but I can well imagine that would not publish posts containing the word CUNT...

A friend of mine reported an aggressive driver to his boss:-
I'd like to report one of your drivers for bad and aggressive driving today, 1st Feb in your van BF10 VRV near the Oracle at approx 14.05. I was cycling in a narrow piece of road and 1st of all your driver sat behind me revving his engine, then at the first opportunity overtook very close to me and immediately swerved into the kerb forcing me to brake hard.
I'm always amazed when people drive in such an aggressive way in a sign written van. Do they not realise the impact this is having on your business? As a local home owner I would never consider your business if this is the kind of person you employ.
And got this reply:-
From Berkshire Carpets and Blinds
berkshirecarpets@btconnect.comThanks for all the trouble you went to to make the above - I must say that personally if I were to bother to complain about every bit of contentious everyday driving that I come across I would have little time left to carry out my normal day. There are two sides to every story, though not saying in this case you did anything wrong, but I also find many, many cyclists think they 'own' the road and attempt to ride with some kind of inbuilt immunity to harm and therefore my sympathy is somewhat tempered by this.
However, I will pass your comments onto the fitter concerned, whose side of the incident I have not yet had the opportunity to hear and would just add that, fortunately, my business does not rely on people making similar status judgements to yourself.
Regards,
Geoff Cox
Berkshire Carpets and BlindsWOW, this is just unbelievable. I guess that Geoff Cox is thinking that he has not really lost any business - you might not haf been looking for someone to completely recarpet a property and fit new blinds. I often wonder if it might be a good tactic to ask a company like this to supply a quote (ie. you might pretend to be a landlord with multiple properties to refurbish), then once the quote is received let them know that their drivers are dangerous and that, based on their attitude on the road, you could not trust them to work in your properties. They might realise that events like this dangerous driving can have a negative impact on their revenue...

Could bombard them with phone calls / emails.... http://www.motoroffence.co.uk/contact-us
'Hello, I have been involved in a collision, a minicab has hit me whilst turning left - he was in the right hane lane on Notting Hill Gate travelling Westbound but wanted to turn left to go towards South Kensington and didn't indicate. He just barged into me. Please could you get me compensation for this motoring offence.'
'Oh, by the way, I was on a bicycle....'

Sorry, I could not think of any other thread title, but check out this website: http://www.motoroffence.co.uk/
These are lawyers who specialize in getting motorists reduced sentences / no sentence for motoring offences, including drink / drug drive and repeat offenders. Why are they allowed to do this???? -
Hi Erick,
This survey is far too vague. I commute to work on bike, ride on the road some weekends and also have some weekends away mountain biking. I have ridden both in the UK and in Europe on the road and mountain bike.
I would not really rent a bike in the UK as I have a commuting bike, road bike and mountain bike, bit if the price was right I would hire a full suspension mountain bike for a day (as a change from my hardtail) if I was to go to, for example, Scotland. I also would expect a full suspension mountain bike to cost more to hire than a road bike, due to the cost of purchase and associated maintenance. 40 pounds per day would be a good rate for me to pay.
I would hire a mountain bike abroad, for example next time I go to the Alps, as it is a lot of hassle boxing up a bike and putting it on a plane, and also my lightweight hardtail MTB has been to the Alps 3 times and is a bit tired of it (read this as my MTB is not really suitable for the Alps)...
I would pay 200 pounds per week for a full suspension mountain bike to hire whilst in the Alps. What are your intentions for hiring bikes out? My son works at a MTB trail centre in the hire department. They make money by buying a lot of bikes and betting a bulk discount, hire them out for a season, then sell them for a similar price to what they paid for them. Their main expense is brake pads (even on bikes with disc brakes) and chains, but these items are cheap and easy to replace. Due to the large number of bikes that they buy and the discounts they get when buying the bikes, it works out that at the end of the season the hire charges are pure profit, assuming they sell all the old hire bikes. They had 10 left unsold out of 80 last year but they use these as spare hire bike when they are busy now...
So in short, make sure you know your target market, think big, get a big initial investment to buy bikes at a discount, then watch the profits roll in...

If guilty of causing death by dangerous driving then the penalty is minimum of 2 years inprisonment and maximum of 14 years. The driver has mitigation, as he handed himself in (although did not stop at the scene) and was being chased by the police. If the police car chasing has broken any protocols for driving under blues and twos then the driver may get off without any sentence.
None of this will bring back this lovely couple who were starting on the next stage of their lives...

Complaint sent to TFL today:
This morning I was hit by a minicab. I was on Osnaborough Street at the junction with Longford Street (London NW1), I was indicating to turn right. A minicab, registration number AJ06 XAE was on Longford Street travelling westbound, the driver turned to his left onto Osnaborough Street but overshot the corner and hit me. I stumbled off my bike, the driver stopped, wound down his window and told me that I was allright (I don't know how he knew this) and then drove off. I shouted and cycled after him, he probably only travelled about 30 meters. He then told me that I was OK and that nothing serious had happened. Again, I do not know how he knew this.
Please could you contact this driver, he should not be driving in this manner - ie. on the wrong side of the road, and driving off after hitting another road user after incorrectly assuming that the person he hit was OK.
I await your prompt response. -
Heh. Google Mechanically Recovered Meat, (or these fillers they've been putting in burgers) then come back to me.
A few years back my son and I were mountain biking in Scotland, we stopped at a shop to buy some food for lunch, bread and pate. My son was looking through the ingredients and asked me what 'connective tissue' was.
Promptly spat out sandwich...

What's the best value for money slow cooker? Any to avoid?
I bought a 'family sized' slow cooker from Tesco last year, I can cook a main course and get 4 meals from it - I live on my own :( It was their own brand and was less than fifteen pounds. It has high, low and warm settings. Some recipies will ask for the food to be cooked on either high or low, so this feature is useful. Slow cookers are not a 'high-tech' product so you do not need to spend a lot on one. Tesco / Argos own brand is fine.

Euston to Staines was great. Roads were deserted. There were a few cars that has not cleared their side windows and pulled out onto main roads at 2 mph and couldn't understand why I tapped on their windows asking if they could see me.
I apologise for the big tailback on Goldhawk Road, but I don't think the excuse 'you shouldn't be there' should have been used by a driver who was unable to see in any direction apart from directly ahead. And sorry for the dents in your shitty hatchback - don't know what it was due to all the snow covering it....

Marcfez repp'd for making sense.
Sorry if I've turned this into petrol heads by attempting to question some accepted logic. You are all off course right £35 and three points is totally a kick in the teeth forthe family.
So what do people think he should have got?
Was there any evidence of speeding / using a mobile / being otherwise distracted? As already mentioned he should have been able to stop a lot sooner if he was travelling at the correct speed and paying attention. It seems (based on the Solihul News article only) that he was not doing so, and in my view this is dangerous. The cyclist dies after being hit by the car. Therefore should be sentenced for at least causing death by dangerous driving - custodial sentence, although might be suspended depending on the judge.
I would also hope that he would have a lengthy ban, even though he handed back his taxi licence (not his driving licence though) and have to take an extended driving test when the ban ends.

Sorry tired and bored so figured making a point about jumping to conclusions based on no evidence would be fun...
Anyway, what is your idea to stop the drunks and junkies from fleeing the scene? How could the law work better to stop the best thing for a drunk driver being fleeing?
If you set the sentence for fleeing the scene at an appropriate level (eg. at least that of drink / drug driving) there would not be an incentive to flee...

I had something like this on my chin when I was a teenager, and the treatment was very similar - cut the skin open and squeeze the pus out. It hurt lots. Still, I got a day off school for this! The nurse would not let me look at the pus afterwards, which I was disappointed about at the time.
