Thanks a lot for the advice and useful info! Police didn't attend as I didn't call them at the time - only later.
Yep, apologies - medical terms - I meant musculoskeletal injury e.g pain but no fracture.
Re CCTV: negative as in the van definitely didn't pass by that way, narrowing down the possible routes he went down. Good to know that it wouldn't make a massive difference either way. I guess I was thinking it could confirm the numberplate - but even then you're right there's limited evidence either way of an actual collision.
I suspect nothing will happen with this case but as you say I will get the name of the officer and keep chasing. Frustrating to feel so powerless - maybe time to get a camera.

I was involved in a hit and run yesterday afternoon. Cycling down very quiet lane on sustrans national cycle path ( https://goo.gl/maps/vS4nJuSS9R6FiXRu7 ) when a silver transit van accelerates to overtake me, makes contact and I fall off. Van keeps going.
I caught the first 4 digits of the number plate (BD11 I think, possibly followed by DE/PE) and my friend has found a silver van on gumtree being sold second hand in somerset a couple of years ago with the plate of BD11 DGE. I've contacted 20-30 local businesses and narrowed down the driver's possible route based off negative CCTV and will focus on those roads which he is more likely to have travelled down before and after.
I'm mostly fine and the bike is mostly fine (I have a msk shoulder and knee injury). I've reported it to the police and given them the plate of the gumtree van.
Is there anything else I can be doing? Is it hard to request public CCTV footage?
I will keep trying to catch him on CCTV based on the roads I suspect he travelled on. It was a tiny lane so I suspect he is pretty local.

Lovely bike, if slightly on the expensive side
