I would paint the rim, i painted both of mine and it turned out great, have a look at my thread if you want to see. Also i would raw the cranks, then polish them up, an effort but worth it. lastly, if you don't like the big sticker, you could paint over it, rub it down so you have something for the paint to stick to, and paint over.

Spotted a mate in the station earlier with his new build, not quite finished... (stem needs cutting and bars need taping...)

Crap photo is my fault, poor light think I had the shakes after a strong coffee...
I love that, is he using an eccentric hub?
What size is it? Where are you based? I wanna have a go! (Not in the slaytanic way)
Its 54/54, and im based way down in Exeter, if by chance your anywhere near your welcome to have a go. :)

Last night when i came home from work, i had a couple of parcels waiting for me. One from wiggle, and one much more important from will at hubjub (many thanks will). Anyway i've just fitted my beautiful new seat post and here is the result, also note the painted rim, plus i've fitted the miche 17t cog out back for that 48-17 ratio.
Next up, new rear wheel.

It is an absolute bargain, i'm going to have to pass as its a little on the small side for me, plus i really shouldn't buy another bike until i have got rid of one first! Have a bump. :)
