ha yeah i'm hoping it'll look a little less silly with some fat tyres and guards!
I haven't cycled it before... i've looked on sustrans and there is a route 4 from Greenwich to Fishguard that starts by following the thames to reading before following the kennet avon canal (so i'm assuming it must be reasonably flat!)
http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/route/route-4you cycled it mostly on the roads? I think I will try the towpath. thanks for the pit stop offer though! :)
thanks also for the tyre advice roadwarrior/miitch. what tyres would you recommend? I am (somewhat romantically) planning on cycling to turkey and then beyond... a tractor tyre might be just what i need!

thanks but think kojaks might be a bit too slick? i have paselas on my current road/commute bike and they feel nice and comfortable and fast but worried they might be little fragile though for arse-end-of-nowhere fully loaded touring.
countless blogs on the internet seem to recommend marathon mondial...

tubus tara and logo pannier racks
alpkit bars
brooks saddle (maybe)

Principia Rex from the late 90's. Stiff, lightweight but surprisingly comfortable frame.
Frame, fork and headset weigh only 1.8kgs! These bikes were even used by the Linda McCartney pro race team! Could be easily built up into a 7.5kg race bike for very little money.
Few scratches and chips to the paint but nothing major and no dents. £130 for everything in the picture.
Located in Bristol but can post. Will also be in London on Saturday 29th.
Size
Top tube C-C = 55cm
Seat tube C-C=56cm -

anyone have any experience of eden knives? seems crazy good value! same blade construction (to my layman eyes) as the totally gorgeous kai shun knives on the same site. nice looking handles too.

very tempted by a santoku and the eden sharpening set as my first foray into a sharp kitchen knives... and maybe a paring knife as they're only £20

quite a few bamboo bike builds on here. nothing to 'lol' about! kit looks like a fair price to me and a great idea as it was a right faff getting hold of everything. i chose carbon fibre rather than hemp for the joints though.
also if you varnish it, it works fine in the wet :)
and yes some of my poles came from a garden centre!
heres mine:

Hi all. I'm looking for the following for a cheap road bike setup!
Sram groupset (inc. brakes but no crank)
-cheaper the better - probably rival/apex
-front derailleur needs to be 34.9 clamp on type
-ideally black, silver ok, not whiteRoad wheels
-hub to fit 10sp sram/shimano
-black would be nice, light would be nice. neither are essential
-max £150also 27.2mm seatpost, stem, 40/42cm drop bars.
am in bristol so postage would probably be required. happy to travel a bit though to collect if necessary!
