Thanks for the info Rik! That's a really good shout about the track ends, I'll get the wheel off over the weekend and take a close up if I can't find anything on google.
Who's Kilgariff? A member on here?
^^ The best thing you have to go on are the track ends - the seatstays meet the ends a long way back and the shape's pretty odd too - if you can get a match for those you're well on your way. - Flickr searches as well as Google image can be quite useful for finding a match
I have an early 60's Bob Jackson track frame - no. 4339 (1964) - it has standard campagnolo track ends (same lugs though - prugnat I think) so the date's probably fairly accurate.
The serial# format can also help to eliminate possibilities (the mass producers tended to have alphanumeric or relatively long serial#'s) and some builders had month/year type serials, it's also worth checking kilgariff's pages to quickly see if it's a holdsworth or claud butler.

Hello,
I bought a frame off a forum member last year. He said it was a classic Bob Jackson, but it had no decals to back that up. The frame looked great and the price was right so I didn't really care if it was or wasn't. The powdercoating had rendered the frame number invisible but when I got a new headset put in the forks had a number on them - 7054. I spoke to the people at BJ and they said it wasn't one of theirs.
This is an absolute longshot I know, but does anyone have any suggestions about figuring out the identity of the frame? I'd quite like to get it resprayed and source some decals for whoever manufactured it if it's remotely possible.
Even some suggestions about who might have made it and in what era from the pictures would be amazing. Apparently it was built in 1961 according to the original message from the classified page:
"1961 Bob Jackson track frame 23" Reynolds 531 tubing"
But if it's not a BJ the 1961 could be fiction too!
Thanks

Hi,
A friend has just been given a create frame as a gift. I know I know, it's not a gift it's an insult. He doesn't give a shit tho.
Anyway, he's gonna need a pair of beater wheels, single speed or flip flop, he doesn't want it fixed. He's also going to need a set of cranks, something with a small chainring on, something around 42t would be good for him I think. And finally, some beater pedals, but that's less important as I can tell him to get some wellgo crap for a fiver off wiggle.
If anyone has anything they want to get rid of just let me know a price and if you're willing to post to Bristol.
Thanks
PS serious offers please, not offers of beating him to death with his create frame else this will end up 25 pages long. Ta

I remember in the early 90's growing up in Zimbabwe. One year we had a terrible food shortage and we had to import Polenta maize meal from Kenya as food aid. I remember it tasted like dust. These Biciband Polenta straps are conjuring up those same feelings of revulsion and despair. I wouldn't put my foot in them if Mugabe's ass was attached to the other end of them.
This comment alone has made this thread worth starting. Absolutely brilliant.

Has anyone ever had their pedal straps nicked?
I was thinking about getting some of these
http://mollettadesign.com/products-page/bicibands/biciband-polenta/
I've used straps before, but none quite as desirable as these! Is there anything I can do to make them less nick-able? I'm not planning on leaving the bike anywhere for much longer than 5 minutes at most, but those thieving pikey bastards work fast.
Shall I just get some bog standard ones and not take the risk?

Hi,
I've got a beater I'm trying to get on the road for as cheap as possible. Needs a rear wheel though, and don't really want to spend £75 on a new one on ebay. Something true (or close enough) and spaced to 130mm at the rear would be perfect, but ears are open to any offers.
I'm in bristol but don't mind paying postage on top of the wheel price if someone has something for me!
Would swap for the same wheel with a 5 speed cassette (ridden less than 15 miles) too if anyone is interested.
Also looking for a cheap track crankset, something not too new and shiny (attractive to thieving pikey bastards) would be perfect!
PM's would be nice but if you don't have time any comments offers are cool here too.
Thanks

OK....Im going to build a pair anyway...What do you think they will be? dont worry you can change your mind.
I'm really not sure Varno, it'll either be low pro rims on miche, cross spokes, all silver ... or yellow rims on quandos, crossed spokes. It'll probably be the latter, as the low pros I had in mind for a bike with some pretty nice rims anyway, the yellows I need for a frame I'm building up now.
As soon as I've made my mind up I'll let you know, sorry to be indecisive!
While I'm here, anyone got a recommendations on yellow tyres to match yellow rims? Something good for winter city riding!?!

Thanks Nuovo,
I've been going through some of the catelogues and haven't found anything similar yet, but there's a lot to go through!
