My old team issue Pace rc200 from about 25 years ago is finally back in my hands and coming back to London with me today! 😍
It originally had Sram 9.0 mechs and shifters, and Hope brakes, but now has XTR mechs and combined shifters/brake levers, and Avid BB7 brakes. It's Syncros post is long gone, and the original Pace rc35 stem and Pace bars have been switched to a Hope stem and Easton carbon monkeylite bars.
Still has the original Hope ti hubs, original Middleburn square taper cranks and Pace rings, original Chris King rasta headset minus the green top cap.I have a set of singlespeed dropouts at home for it, so I think it's going to be changing setup into something more useful for street use.
I have to say though... It's scary as fuck to ride now having been riding nothing but my Omnium cargo for years. I'm not used to the light weight and razor sharp handling. 😬

I've got a 47 rear 50 front.
I think the rear rim is Nextie and the front is Light Bicycle. Rear rim is tubeless, front isn't. Few extra wraps of tape until the tyres are tight enough, then just test with no sealant before finally adding it. They work perfectly tubeless for me. 😁Oh, and I remove the reflective strips because I fucking hate them. 😂

It's still crazy to me that Rohloff have never managed to release any other shifter after so many years. The hydraulic shifter that was around for a while looked great, but it just disappeared really quickly.
It seems like the perfect system for hydraulic or electronic, and they still only have a twist shifter that feels spongy, and causes your wrist to end up in awkward positions.I get the whole 'dumping multiple gears at once' thing, but I've never found myself in a position where I've needed to do that.

Just got to work and it was awesome! I don't know if it's the Yokozuna brake outers, or trigger shifters as opposed to brifters, or just the combination of the two, but it feels like I hardly have to push the shifter any further than the last time I used a regular drivetrain. Which granted has been a few years. But first impressions are that it feels way more like changing gears than with the Rohloff twist shifter. I actually have quite a bit of preload on the spring and it still doesn't feel 'hard' to push. The resistance feels pretty much how I'd want it to feel.
I just have to get used to having no gear indicator now. 😁 -
I gotta say, the Rohbox is actually easier to set up than Rohloffs own. None of the faffing about wrapping the cables around the pulley the right way etc.
Using Yokozuna reaction brake cable outer and stainless steel gear cable inner, mated to modified Sram XO shifters, which are direct mounted to my Hope brake levers everything feels really solid and the shifters don't even need that big a push to change gear.
This is all only stationary in the flat though as it's nearly midnight, so like fuck can I be arsed to go out and try it.
Cue tomorrow's post about how the Rohbox exploded five minutes into my ride to work! 😂 -
There was also the year when I was in a bit of a bad head space and rode the whole way there and back on my own. Barely spoke to anyone, and took an actual overdose of painkillers which I'd been stupidly washing down with whisky. This resulted in me projectile vomiting in a chip shop toilet, and then sitting at the side of the road in Leyton, only to 'wake up' about 45 minutes later, thankfully with my bike still there! 😂
Fuck me that was a grim time! -
