Struggling to see the point of your lengthy rant. You start it by slagging off someone who has taken breaks when he's given them and moved himself "up" in the world, it seems to me that your almost saying he should know his place and not hobnob with aristos and royalty. Then you finish it off by decrying how the current shower of cunts are trying to kill off social mobility and use your mum's work as an example.

One of the business card holder ones?
stickfix
I had no idea that this existed looks to be bloody useful, may have to buy one. I've recently started using the Festool sanding sponges and am really impressed, which I probably shouldn't be given that they started out as a company that made sanding tools and then made their name by introducing dust extraction.

I actually got some flack for the track bike at the Cycle Show a few weeks back, like ' why is a track bike on a service car tssk tssk'. Heathens.
If I had that car and was on the receiving end of attitude like that I'd resolve to next time turn up with a roof rack full of carbon full sus mullet DH bikes purely to piss them off even more.
(Apparently I'm prone to being petty)

Best explanation I've ever heard of class:
Is if you lock equal numbers of working, middle and upper class people in a pub. The upper class people will set about getting pissed and having fun with the working class people. The middle class people will stand in the corner sipping their sherry whilst jealously looking at the people having fun wondering; why are the toffs talking to them? Surely we've got more in common with them!

trying to weigh up do I perhaps try to do any of it myself - in the bathroom, two brick walls to dot-and-dab (one with window), ceiling to board onto joists (fairly sure this bit i can do); and some skimming on a previously plastered (but bery rough looking) wall in the kitchen
Dot and dab isn't too difficult as long as you have a good level at least 1800mm in length to be used both as a straight edge and a level. Take your time with the first board, make sure the edges are plumb and that the board itself is plumb on the wall as everything else references off this. The rest goes up fairly easily but you need to keep using the level as a straight edge across the board you're putting up and the last one to ensure everything is nice and flat. There's loads of how too videos on YouTube.
Ceilings can be harder than they appear especially if you're working by yourself. If you are working by yourself you'll need a deadman to support the board and these board mate clip things help too help too. I'd also strongly suggest you hire a collated screwgun to tack the boards as getting those first few tacks in quickly is essential and it really does help.
Personally I'd not skim a surface myself but there are plenty of how too guides out there.
P.S sorry to hear if your troubles it's hard at the moment to find trades who won't sacrifice small jobs to take on big ones as everyone is so busy. Still a dick move.

Barry's coming across as being
- A really unpleasant person
- Quite dim
Sherborne said he had wanted to search WhatsApp messages held on Wattâs phone but it had been dropped over the side of a boat and was now âlying at the bottom of sea in Davy Jonesâs lockerâ.
Vardy asked the court: âWho is Davy Jones?â The judge intervened to explain the reference. - A really unpleasant person

They're all much of a muchness.
As far as I can see there's not much difference between the cheap ones and the expensive ones.
I don't have experience with the once you've linked to but most are weatherproof. The only thing I would say is some digilocks have a really bad way to set the code: you need to remove a plate and change the orientation of pins in the lock, said pins are spring loaded so invariably when you remove the plate it pings off and the springs and pins go flying leading to you crawling round hunting down the little fucking things. Avoid those ones they're a pain.

Meant to replay to this yesterday but got sidetracked sorry. In my experience laying porcelain tiles in a garden needs to be done well with a uniform fall otherwise it will look shit after a couple of months as water will pool and dirt will collect there and it will stand out like a sore thumb against the tiles. In order to do it well the earth needs to be graded well, then compacted well, same goes for the type 1 and the slab needs to be poured to fairly fine tolerances, all of which takes experience. I'm not saying that you couldn't do it but it is hard to get right.
@ColinTheBald does landscaping for a living and could probably give you a better idea of what you need to do to do a proper job.

Nope they specified the blue MDF / American white oak combo. They also paid a premium for the Valchromat. It's better than it looks in that photo and the variation in the colour of the particles within the board gives it a nice texture, as shown in this photo.
EDIT - ItS one of those colours that changes quite drastically depending on the quality of light.

Given that both of your examples had the drive and determination to win a title I'm confident that they would have been able to develop the stamina and reaction times. Both of these things can be coached much more effectively than the single minded levels of determination required to succeed at that level, in any era of the sport.
Whether Hunt especially could have reigned in his natural exuberance and personality enough to not have sponsors running for the hills is another question though. I don't think any modern team would give someone like that a drive.
