Really easy. You just need to book a space, which is free. There's one carriage for bikes with space for four bikes.
Had a bit of aggro on the way back from a guy with a pushchair who'd taken up some space, but given there's literally nowhere else to put bikes, he eventually gave in and pissed off elsewhere.

Did a nice little mini tour out to Suffolk at the weekend. Took the train up to Audley End from Liverpool Street, then cycled through quiet country lanes and sleepy, quaint little villages to Edwardstone. Settled in at the White Horse pub, drank exceptional beer, ate quality food and camped at the pub's campsite. Bit of rain the next morning, but the sun came out for long enough to dry the tents before we packed down. Cycled through more sleepy villages and country lanes to Colchester, where we got the train back to London. Got fucking soaked on the way back from Liverpool Street.
Observation: the drivers in Essex are considerably less considerate than those in Suffolk.

Yeah, sorry about that. Was cycling through sleepy Suffolk villages on the way to a cracking little pub with a campsite. I apologise for the lack of pessimism, which appears to have angered the weather gods and thereby gifted the urn to the Australians again. Normal service to be resumed for the Oval.

I'm sure I remembered the registration correctly, so the car was probably stolen. (Having a false plate is a criminal offence. It's not worth doing unless the real registration would trip the ANPR in a police car. ) Maybe the driver kept it running for 25 minutes because the ignition was damaged and the car could only be started by opening the bonnet?
Are you in the Met?

Quite enjoying the French commentary with Jacky Durand and David Moncoutie et al. They've been having a tour-long running joke about Moncoutie not being able to pronounce Sam Welsford's surname and are taking any and every opportunity to take the piss out of him for it. Which he's totally into and keeps valiantly attempting it on request.

I looked into this a while ago, although I was going the other way, and found it nigh on impossible. I think if you piss about and get a local TER train to Amiens, it's just about possible, but it is a faff.
