Condominium are playing 3 gigs in England next month. I think they're a good example of a hardcore band who can put a lot of ideas into a song without it sounding wanky or forced.

And I love this song off the single they did on Sub Pop

That Fucking Tank are partly why I bought a baritone...great fucking band! Do you know if they're still going?
I'm thinking my amp is the problem to be honest...I'm playing through an old peavey bass amp with a 2x15 cab, I think thats what's muddying it all up. I'm going to try out a guitar amp through a 4x10 bass cabinet with a tweeter and see how that sounds.
Also got my eye on one these: http://www.tronographic.com/rustybox.html
you can only order direct from the USA though so no way to have a go with one first, the reviews seem pretty good though and Bob Weston's name is bandied around a lot so can't be all that bad.
Sorry, only just seen this. I think TFT are still going but the chaps tend to focus on other stuff AFAIK.
The Rusty Box, yes I'd love to have a go on one of those! It might be worth having a scan of the Electrical Audio forum - there are plenty of English people on that board, many of whom will be Shellac fanboys - you never know, there might be a friendly Londoner who has one they'd be willing to let you try.
For that clanky, not too dirty bass sound I'm really pleased with my Tech 21 VT Bass - sounds great straight into a power amp!
Also heard about a boutique pedal company called Fuzzrocious for the first time this week, they have some interesting-looking pedals.

Currently into Freakonomics in the downstairs bog and a Dick Francis in the upstairs crapper.
Soz for lowering the tone but this is something that has puzzled me in the past - how long does it take people to read actual novels that are left in the toilet? Too much detail here I'm sure but I only go for a shit when I feel like I need one. In and out in a couple of minutes.
Do people take ages to do the actual shit, shit then sit around reading for ages after they're done, or just go sit on the throne when they don't feel the need, read and wait for the BM?

Anyone seen Starred Up? Looks like it might be pretty good, and stars Ben Mendelsohn who was amazing in Animal Kingdom.
Think I might go watch Under The Skin too. I need to redress the cinema balance as I've been very disappointed by a couple of recent visits (Her & Grand Budapest Hotel).
Having said that I got to see Todd Solondz's Happiness at the cinema last Saturday which was a great experience.

Dredge.
This looks like it might be worth a go:

Started off on Kickstarter, and is getting good reviews on US Amazon.

Human Centipede 2
I watched the first one and I didn't like it, I found it empty.
The second one, instead, it's almost great, if you like this gender.
The main actor is awesome, he doesn't say a word for the entire time while he's able to let understand all his thoughts, and actions.
The best scenes, for me, are the ones at home with his mother.
Watch it, and enjoy it, but better keep it far from the mealtimes.More reviews pls

FAO anyone wanting some cheapish new Atacs with adjustable tension I'd recommend the All Road Grippers.
Not double-sided but I've had no problems, and it's so nice to not have the foot on ice cube feeling that you get with knackered springs!
About £27 at Ribble which isn't bad considering how much a new set of cleats cost.

Looks like a solution looking for a problem
Agreed.
You can play FLAC files on a rockboxed Sansa player for very cheap. Fair enough this will have great d/a converters, headphone out jack etc but will it really be noticeable? Will it fuck.
I also find it hilarious that Neil Young is endorsing this - he's nearly 70 and has notoriously fucked hearing.

I thought GBH sucked to be honest, and there are plenty of Wes Anderson films that I like. It just seemed completely lacking in any kind of substance, and the dialogue was awful - so many lines obviously written for laughs that just weren't funny.
On a more optimistic note they're showing quite a few PSH films at my local independent cinema over the next couple of months so I'll be seeing The Big Lebowski, Happiness(!!!) and Love Liza on the big screen.
Still pretty gutted that we're not going to see him growing old in films.

Less chat more splat!
Two of my favourite UK bands, playing proper 'ardcore

I think it’s very difficult to “push boundaries” these days and remain listenable. The parameters of guitar-based music have been stretched to extremes in all directions, to the extent that in order to sound different it’s necessary to have a willfully perverse approach to writing songs. This in my opinion is not compatible with the relatively straightforward aesthetic of hardcore punk.
Don’t get me wrong, there are always bands that can sound interesting and exciting by using the familiar elements in a slightly different way, but they’ll always be making reference to the past.

Update incase anyone's interested:
Finished soldering the PCB on my pedal yesterday, tested it and it works! Just need to wire up the enclosure and it's done.
This is the (very simple) pedal we're building, but there are loads of interesting kits on the site and the instructions are great even for idiots like me. Pretty sure I'm going to buy myself a soldering iron and build some more.
