Anyone else do the Southern XC Champs on Sat? The Parly Hill Passchendaele was in full effect, muddiest race of the year as usual. And on the last lap, that thunderstorm hit. Feel sorry for the slowest guys, who bore the brunt of it.
I got round v slowly, had to finish as needed to pick up some points for the club, but am not popular with my back. More downtime beckons. le sigh
I was out there. My first cross country; loved it although I have a pretty sore ankle today. Fortunately I was getting changed before the storm arrived; still got soaked on the walk to the pub.
Then on my recovery run yesterday I ended up calling the emergency services when a car hit a lamppost in forest hill. An interesting weekends running.

I'm just back from the top of one of the hills. The race is a lot of fun, I did it twice when I was a student. But I imagine without local knowledge, it would be tough. I saw a lot of people go the wrong* way. Do you know the city well?
*Or at least different from what I thought the quickest way was.
I know the city reasonably but not brilliantly. Am planning at least one recce weekend once marathon training is out of the way.
Anyone else running Parliament Hill this afternoon?

Looks like LFGSS AC is going quite well. My legs were shattered for my lunchtime jog, but it was worth it for the hilly 18 miles yesterday, averaging a shade under 7:30 miles. Marathon training is finally starting to click :)

which marathon are you doing?

I did get up just before 2pm (got to bed at 3.30am) so I'd only been up for a bit and not active all day and I took on a couple of hundred calories before the run which should be more than enough for 4 miles so I'm just a little surprised as I wasn't running hard at all.
How did today's long run go? Apart from being cold.
Is anyone doing the Manchester marathon in April?

Its too early to really worry, IMO.
I'm on the hunt for another (big) city marathon, very early season, not very far from UK if at all, and this time I'd be aiming for GFA times. Probably, if I can take it seriously.
Manchester is the one I am looking at for next spring. GFA there and London in 2015.
rhb: is it possible to run the xc races without being attached to a club?

Ooh, lummy, the Great North Run is hilly, isn't it?
Still, a woman gave me an ice cream on the route. Then another gave me a biscuit. Top notch.
I saw women handing out ice-pops. waaaay too cold for them.
It ended up being much much better than I remember it being, particularly the support, the bands and the general atmosphere, even in the drizzle and rain.
Managed to start near the front so not too much dodging of slow runners. Got a 1:22:44 pb.
Definitely going to enter next year now.

Good running. Were you with a club? Hermitage Harriers took over a big chunk the campsite we were at.
I've done the 14miler 3 times, first time over the old 14.75 course (2h17 with bad cramps) then a 1h41 and a 1h52 so beaten train just the once on the long'un.
Prefer the 10km as it gives rest of day to drink plus it's the tougher half of the course, and training isn't essential (even tho it helps).
£28 as late entry. Would begrudge that for a road 10k but this is worth every penny every time.
No, I am an unattached at the moment. Probably going to look for a club to join this autumn though.
I definitely wouldn't fancy that final 10k with no training.
What other races do you do?
-
I finished 30th in Tywyn so was one of just 38 from an entry of 300+ to beat the train over an - as ever - tough 10km first 8km off road.
No run specific fitness or conditioning as training had dropped right off to nought since June, so really happy to have ran so well, paced it almost perfect just flagged in the last 200m losing 1 place there. My legs are in tatters today.
Saw some of the leaders finish in the 14miler - all strong fell runner treetrunk leg types, chapeau to them and all who finished as the rain & wind hit hard in the afternoon.
Our paths must have crossed.
I did the 14 miler, beat the train and came 58th. the return was pretty challenging, particularly the hill up to mile 11. It felt like I was going backwards in the last 3 miles.
You should do the full one next year. :)
